Currently waiting for delivery of a carbon Reign and I've got thinking about the roof rack. I've got a Nukeproof Mega and I'm more than happy to clamp the down tube quite tight with the Thule pro ride rack and I'm sure the new bike will be fine.

Just wanted real world experience of people doing the same thing and not damaging the frame on their carbon bike. I'm sure it's absolutely fine.... probably.

Put carbon road bikes in a 591 regularly, no issues. I'd worry a lot more about rock strikes damaging the carbon at the bottom the downtube than a thule rack.

You don't need to clamp them up super tight either, make sure it's centred, click down enough to touch both sides then the next click.

Depends which ProRide, I think - newer ones have a torque limiter.

They also sell this which is meant to be a carbon frame protector.

As a test, clamp your hand in the Thule rack, you'll see it isn't that strong and you're worrying about nothing. Now laser ferrets, that IS something we should be worried about.

The new 598 Proride has a a torque limiter on it so you can't overtighten it.

Ironically the reason Thule introduced this wasn't because people were over tightening their old 591's, it's because people were being overly cautious with clamping their lightweight frames and weren't tightening them up enough, meaning the bike cold move around.

So, yeah, Prorides are fine for carbon, just keen the jaws clean and wipe the bit where the clamp goes so the grit doesn't eat your paint.

The frame has got a lower frame protector so no real need for that Thule one. Seems like I've got nothing to worry about. I'll only tighten it up red face tight and not purple face tight.
