Our stuff is covered via our own home insurance policy.

Roofracks?
That's your car insurance buddy! Make sure that covers it for damage, and make sure your household insurance covers it for theft

If it's attached to the car, it's normally car insurance. If they are off the car and in your garage/shed, normally under household contents insurance

Where do you keep them when not on the roof?
And worried of damage - you're more likely to damage the car continually taking them on/off.
