I have recently bought myself a Thule Velospace XT with the fancy torque limiting knobs on - "AcuTight".ย  I've had a roof carrier (591 IIRC) that hasn't got a torque limiter and so I've gone easy when putting carbon frame bikes on there - done it up what I reckoned was firm but not crushing.

Now, I have a go on the Velospace with my son's Beinn and blinkin blimey the torque limit seems high.ย  In fact, even for an Alu frame it seems needlessly tight for holding a bike on a bike rack (and especially a bike that's also strapped on by both wheels).ย  You can't mistake the click when you reach the torque it's very clear and obvious, but I thought it wasn't working when I did it up first time because it was just so tight.ย  All three arms seem calibrated similarly, so it isn't a duff knob (*giggles*)

I have the carbon frame protector thingy from Thule but even with that I'm not sure I dare tighten it up until it clicks.

Am I being needlessly cautious?

And to top it all, having had a play with the Jeffsy - there's nowhere really on the frame to clamp without twisting the retainer bar, meaning it doesn't clamp evenly.ย  Goddam it.ย  Need a new bike ๐Ÿ˜€
