If anyone is interested I wrote up my single speed experience from this year's race

Dave's very long 3 Peaks report with crap pictures

Warning it is long and rambles a bit but hopefully it's worth a coffee and 30 minutes.

I enjoyed reading that. Nice one.

Here's my slightly-less elegantly-written account of the race

Yeah nice read, doesn't make me want to ride it though!

Just read that earlier, enjoyed it. And Jase's. My rambles from considerably further back... http://furiouscycling.blogspot.com/2011/09/once-more-into-madness.html

I projected forward to the humiliation I would feel as an unbending grim northern marshall held up a flat hand to an exhausted naive singlespeeder then pointed to the showers.

Fantastic! Nice writeup. I remember seeing you on the descent of Whernside but don't seem to have a pic

Definitely worth a read (in fact I found it via a Twitter link before I saw this post).
I saw you briefly at the end taking a picture of that 4-4.5hr sign - didn't realise it was you until I saw the picture above. You weren't very far behind me actually. Excellent write up, very funny in places.

I race single speed in all the mtb events I do( from short cousre xc to 24 hr solo and Kielder)but would never consider the three peaks on 'one'. Much respect is due. I came in at a pb of 4hr 7 mins only a few seconds ahead of......you,ve guessed it a bloody singlespeeder!

my take is that we're all pretty much off and trotting at similar points on the uphills so I'm only losing significant chunks on the road bits - just need to get better at running up hills and descents too. Hopefully getting nearer 4 hrs on a dry run. It is compulsive stuff, eh?
