Hi all

This has been on my radar for a while but I don't know anyone who has ridden all or some of it. If anyone can share any pics and experiences, that would be great. In particular, the stuff between Helensburgh and Balloch is a bit of an unknown quantity for me as is the route on towards Arrochar.

If anyone knows the area, I'd love to hear from them. I'm planning to ride it in the Spring as a day ride with added Cobbler content in a kind of sea to sky theme. There will also be a crossing of the Loch by Ferry required though a Packraft crossing appeals if the weather can be guaranteed. ๐Ÿ˜€

Cheers

Sanny

Just to add in whether anyone has done the Coire Grogain loop and whether it is worth adding on to the ride?

Cheers

Sanny

Done this route from balloch to cardross then along road to Helensburgh and up to Glen fruin , route thru the mod range fireroad most of the way but a good work out to Glen Douglas , grassy / muddy track from there to tarbet with a few nice bits along the way , the coire grogain route is a must hard climb to get to the top great decent to loch sloy and great wee single track thru Glen loin back to arrochar , pictures to follow sanny

Brilliant. What was the Balloch to Helensburgh section like? That for me is the big unknown. Glen Douglas is off my radar so would love to read more about the trail, ease of following etc

I have always missed out the bit from Balloch to Helensburgh, it wasn't a very good path/track. The rest to the three loch way is relatively easy to navigate. You are best taking the bridge to no where option as the other bridge is well washed away and there where lots of wind blower tree across the track. (might of been clear by now). The three loch way website has a good route description and maps.

You definitely what to do the Arrochar to Loch Slot part of the route starting from the Loch Slot end.

My Folks and the Helensburgh access trust are the ones behind it Sanny.

The Balloch Helensburgh bit is a wee bit up in the air for landowner reasons and hikeybikey. Not any worse than normal GMBC stuff.

Feel free to contact them as they walk it often to show the digger drivers where to go. Some bits will seem sanitised but veiws are good. Download the app from the website. Its marked with posts and the logos.

They will be delighted to hear you have ridden it, send them pictures and reports!! www.threelochsway.co.uk

You can get a bigger circuit by crossing to Inversnaid and taking the new(ish) cycle path from Garrison to just about the N end of Loch Ard. E side track down to Loch Dhu then either over to Stronmacnair then head back to Loch Lomond via the zig-zags above Cailness. WHW and NCN back to Balloch. Or Stronmachnair to aqueduct access track and back to Drymen Cottage. Then WHW and NCN to Balloch or WHW over Conic to Balmaha. Water taxi to Balloch?

I reckon a couple of years of little use and the new cycle track from Inversnaid will have grown in to a nice bit of single track. Bit too fresh and clean at the moment.

Coire Grogain is alright, mostly fire road, good views, but the single track bit every body mentions is only about 1/8th or the route or something... Clockwise is the right way to go..

I always noticed a very sinuous tarmac path (i.e. not a road) climbing up from Loch Long as the train pulls out of Helensburgh, can anyone shed any light on that? Looks like a very interesting way of connecting with Glen Fruim and the excellent tarmac descent out of Glen Fruim.
