[#4335323]

I'm rebuilding a friends bike and it's all old bits and pieces I'm not really familiar with. The fork is threaded and doesn't seem to be compatible with modern stems and headsets so I need to get a threaded one.

Seen this:

http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=39820

They do one in 1.1/8" which is what the headtube is but I'm wondering if it will fit the steerer which is 1" wide.

Thanks.

Ah ok didn't know that thanks. It's a Muddy Fox MTB age unknown and the forks are Suntours. I was hoping to put my old Bombers in it to continue the retro theme but they won't fit.

Sounds like a 1inch headset then.

OK so I take it the 1.1/8" headtube was an industry standard with the threaded headset then?

Thanks for that link Macavity. Orangeboy said (in his deleted post)that the 1" or 1.1/8" refers to the steerer rather than the headtube which has confused me somewhat as the pdf seems to show it as the headtube size although it's not very clear. Can anyone confirm please?

If the inner diameter of the head tube is
30mm then it's a 1" headset you need
34mm will be for 1 1/8"
37mm will be for 1 1/4"

For forks a steere tube outside diameter of

25.4mm will be 1" headset
28.6mm will be 1 1/8"
31.75mm 1 1/4"
38.2mm 1 1/5

I think trying to remember all that would make my brain fail anyway. I hope the whiskey was good! Just measured everything again so it'll be the 1" one I need. Thanks for getting back to me.
