I fancy trying one out as they come in 27.2 and are 50 odd quid.

If I put an appropriate boot on it and maintain it, will it last or are they really shite.

Have a google or a search on here, They are available from a number of suppliers as they are a generic copy of an expensive one IIRC.

The one on my PA is still going strong ... It's got a chainstay cover over it, it gets cleaned every so often and for the money I can't really fault it.

I had one for the alps. Crackingly useful over there as mostly downs, but nice to be able to really drop it for the technical bits. Over here....hmm, well it's a bit 'clunky' and heavy to be REALLY good, and has about 1 inch of 'travel' in it like a suspension post.

TBH, the more expensive ones are considerably better (the i900 and the likes), but they ARE more expensive.
Weighing up weight and price, I'd say it's a close call, swinging more in favour of the cheaper one if most of your riding is DOWN......
