i am wanting to buy a thomson elite stem off of CRC but it has no mention of handlebar clamp sizes on the web page and so i was wondering whether there is only one option or something? im wanting a 31.8mm bar so will this fit?

The X4 is oversize
yup, why there is no Elite in oversize I dont know, the X4 has the stanradrd clamping bolts instead of the Elite's clever clampy thing...
is the x4 as good as the elite though?
Neither is going to be crap.
Don't worry about it, it's a stem, it holds your bars on...
Got a new in bag 100 x 10 deg 4x, £45 posted.
I've got both on different bikes. The clamp thing on the Elite is okay, but you have to be careful how you tighten / loosen it. It doesn't hold the steerer any tighter than the one on the X4 and the bolts are pretty low profile anyway.
The clamp on the X2/X4 is actually a better clamp design than the Elite, although it doesn't look as nice.
If you want an oversize stem, buy the X4 in your desired length and forget about it.
