hard to see how steep it is but hollowed steps (wooden at that) make me cringe. the 2nd pic ride em no probs but id need my armour to contemplate the top ones 🙂

.... depends on your level of bike control skill.... and power of brakes.

I'd tackle them...

dont try it on a fatbike , you'll end up knocking all the trees down and flattening the surrounding area

It's difficult to tell how steep it is from the photo, but they look pretty straightforward. 🙂

First set look quite closely spaced I'd guess around 3 per meter so should be ok,2nd set look easier , my only concern would be the wooden lips/edges if wet as very easy to lose grip and take a unwanted detour.

Always hard to get an idea from a picture as hard to assess the steepness. But with that caveat, I don't like the look of the top ones - not a lot of room between steps and handrail for starters and they do look steep with sizeable lips.

Second set, look OK to me. In fact look a lot like a set I first rode on my CX bike at night (not entirely intentionally, but if you're going to bin it trying to stop you might as well hang on and hope for the best).... 😉

First set wouldn't be my cup of tea - probably steeper than they look and the first step you'd hit from that side bit looks like primed to launch you into the hedge.

As Daddy GW says though - hit those steps as part of a fast downhill piece and you wouldn't even notice them. Mince up from a cold start and they start to look precipitous.

Looks like a rideable line to the left, just avoid the centre. Id certainly try

The first section has very big lips 🙂
But the second section is very much doable.

Get yourself a Yeti and go and mince down some tame trails on the Quantocks for practice and you'll be able to tell people on here how you rode down them without holding back.
You might have to confess that it was your special fork seals and forkjuice that made all the difference though. 😉

All I can do from the photos is say 'easy'.

yes. 1st pic, cut the corner and let go of the brakes. don't try to steer, just let the front wheel finds its way, if that makes sense.

2nd pic easy.

be careful if wet and damp.

and wear a helmet. and have a mate nearby ready to phone 999.

for you perhaps. TJ wouldn't even require a helmet.

If you are a fan of daft wide bars a bar/hand rail interface looks an eminent possibility on the first set.

1st set - doable but faster to take the bank on the left.

2nd set - bit of speed and jump of the top (aiming to land just past the 6th lip) your momentum will carry you over the second part.

The top one looks like a wheel catcher. The bottom one looks straight forward.

As long as your bars clear the handrail, that looks like nothing to worry about. But it no doubt looks worse in real life - the camera flattens everything.

I know the ones you mean darrenh, they never used to be there just a steep slippery chute. Don't think the top bit would be but the rest would be okish.

I don't know the area, but a question springs to mind, footpath or bridleway, and what course of action to be taken when encountering the inevitable bunch of walkers mindlessly wandering up the steps, heads down in conversation?

First ones - top bit could be tricky, the rest probably fine. Second set looks easy. It's hard to tell from pics though. I don't get the fascination with riding steps TBH, doesn't really appeal to me much - I'll do it if I have to.

I wouldn't want to do the first ones but I've never really liked riding down steps, even normal ones feel a bit horrible. Probably way steeper than they look and they look like wheel catchers. 2nd ones look alright.
