Why is the back half of most chainring bolts so stupid?!! Why can't they just use a hex rather than some stupid double notch thing?

Here is some really useful information:
Both sides of my X1 chainring bolts are hex. 5mm and 6mm.

The only thing that Truvativ make that is any good. 5mm hex on one half, 6mm hex on the other.
