Does anyone know how to identify it as a part, or size? Numerous failed Google attempts...
FWIW had been working fine for a long time without but would like the piece of mind
MachineMart sell boxes of them with different sizes. Or a good motor factor may well have a box you can delve in. If you send me a direct message with the diameter of the groove then I’ll stick you a couple of variants in the post if I’ve got them.
For 'poos and s****s' I decided to try and find it in the Sram spare parts catalogue, and it looks like you are out of luck. It's a case of finding something similar or a dead derailleur that you can poach parts off:
I've had luck with mech parts before by posting WTBs on an FB page for broken parts. People will often send you them for postage. YMMV
they look the same size as Hope use on the lever pivots...
you can maybe confirm the size and give hope a call see if they are the same.... parts for hope are readily available and worth a punt
I'd guess at a 3mm or 4mm crab claw circlip, but any correct sized external clip will be fine.

Looks like 3.5 to me based on comparison to hex keys. Thanks for suggestions.
@RudiBoy - thanks for this. I asked Hope what size it is and they said "Never had to measure a circlip before, what dimension are you looking for?" 😀
I'll just order it and see, cheers.
And thanks to Wheelsonfire1 for sending a couple to try (too big sadly)
After getting round to ordering the hope circlip, it was too big. I guess 4mm. But it's always simple when you finally search the right thing

(Hopefully)
@jimmy I do admire your determination to repair without just throwing away. Please post when you’re successful!
If you have of Vernier callipers you could measure it and just fit a standard circlip.
Or use the trial and error approach.
Finally turned up. 4mm external circlip does the job.

You could have just posted a wanted in the classified. I have a couple of wrecked X0 mechs in the cupboard
