Why don't you devote some of your time to defending some of those that are "lacking in skill"

I'm sure they'd be more gratefull. 8)

singlespeedstu - I wouldn't worry too much, I noticed your ' ๐Ÿ˜‰ ' after your comment, and I guess most other people did too.

Shame some people can't be a little more gay, and a little less grumpy.

๐Ÿ˜‰

.

ton - you're a very naughty boy. And don't give me this "who ? me ? I don't know what you're talking about" bollox.

I am a skill-less, top-heavy plumper who falls off every five minutes and is too scared to go down anything steeper than 3 degrees.

I wouldnt be any better on a hardtail than on a full suss, but I have built a fs for the sheer fun of it...

I cant be the only one who's decision is based purly on aesthetics?

Don't worry I'm sure ton will "take me in hand" and "teach me a lesson" for being so insulting to "the gays".

And this one's for the hard of thinking and lacking in humour. ๐Ÿ˜‰ ๐Ÿ˜‰ ๐Ÿ˜ฏ ๐Ÿ˜‰

I'm with Grumm. Gay, Ghey, Jey - it's all homophobic...

Gay, Ghey, Jey - it's all homophobic..

In that case, why do gay men use it ?

I mean, it really doesn't make sense for gay men to use a word which conjures up feelings of loathing, fear and contempt.

How about if instead of saying : "Because they're to soft/gay/lacking in skill to ride a rigid bike" (followed by a wink of course) singlespeedstu had said : "Because they're to soft/girly/lacking in skill to ride a rigid bike" (followed by a wink of course) would that have been alright then ?

Or would "girly" have been deemed as sexist and offensive by suggesting a hatred, loathing, and contempt for women ? ffs

Some of you PC brigadistas need a reality check. And it would be all so laughable, if you didn't make the job of fighting real hatred and prejudice so much harder, and, didn't give so much ammunition to the real bigots.

Bollocks, sorry. There was a gay forum user who on another thread said he finds the use of gay as a derogatory term pretty offensive. A gay guy at work finds it pretty unpleasant the way Chris Moyles uses the word as an insult.

And by the way, yeah, using the term girly would be pretty sexist. I'm not claiming it's some kind of ultimate evil and that people who do it are twt@s, I'm just saying I don't think it's a particularly good thing. Do you?

gay men don't normally use the word 'gay' in a pejorative sense though...

Not offending people through one's use of language isn't some sort of lefty mind control, it's just manners.

Exactly. Like many words, it's the way in which it's used that matters - not the fact that it's been used.

Only someone living in fantasy PC wonderland, would think that singlespeedstu used it in an unacceptable manner.

Gay but don't like non-gay men using the word 'gay' ? Well MTFU.

IMHO ....... of course

I find all the extra pummelling in the bum quite exciting on a HT. But for ultimate satisfaction, it's got to be rigid.

And you don't see a problem with using it as an insult? I imagine people probably used to say the same about, eg 'jewing' people out of money.

Like I said, I'm not saying its a massive crime, I just don't think it's very pleasant - especially when a gay user of this forum has said he finds it insulting.

especially when a gay user of this forum has said ......

Well OK .......... I am semi-educated, shop in Tesco, live in Croydon 'Stab City' and call everyone a ****.

I demand grumm, that forthwith, you never use the word 'chav'

....... don't let me catch you using it now.

I don't like the word chav either - usually used by snobby ****s sneering at the underclass.

I like offensive insults, theyre funny because theyre shocking. People are different and have different views. Get over it.

I might be forced to go on a bike ride with my full sus tomorrow, which I'm gutted about - I hate it. Mind you, I didn't before I got my Scandal.

Ignore all that nonsense. Went out on my FS this evening for the first time in about 18 mths ...........nice ๐Ÿ˜ฏ

.......... and so kind on the bum

Personally, after just 5 years of riding HT a fancy trying FS (Much because of the 'you'll be soooo fast on a FS' from mates).

After a year a realised i was just mashing through terrain and was just a passenger on a bike.
So when the chance of a Chameleon came up, i took it (also as a chance to go ss), desite this move i learnt i rode in just the same manner on a HT as i did on the orange 5......

Guess i'm a lost cause when it come to it, but love being on the trail and not in it...

And as i've not read thread but noticed tons last post....

Why did i go ss.

Well last august i tried it because i could...did so for a few weeks, but on the first day on a 3 day peaks ride i hyperextended my knee again so needed to run gears for the rest of the trip.

Then early this year when work dried up and my cassette, etc wore out i needed to keep riding, so ss was the only way.

Can't say i've needed them since, yes it's unsociable, yes it's hard work, yes i won't to go faster on some some trails when i spin out..

But mostly it's very satisfying....simplistic and 'Hardpure' yep that's the new niche.

Hardpure riding.

Full sussers look crap! I should have thought that was a good enough reason for anyone on here not to buy one.

I reckon there is nothing wrong with running both.

2 sussers on 4in one 5in and a bit tougher. I also run a Steel singlespeed which is great.

Changing between them is always for a change, or bad weather!

You can always get an indication of expected 'trollic effect' of his question, by the number of question marks STW's favourite and most lovable troll, puts after his question.

I feel that the phrase "trollic effect" has not had the recognition it deserves. ๐Ÿ˜€
