BBC live and will be on I player too.

Pog for the win, though I also have a fiver on WvA and Remco picking up medals.

Forgotten that Pogacar was in it.
I was going for WvA for the win.

The British contingent won't get anywhere close to it in the Men's race. Lizzie Deignan stands a decent chance in the Women's race unless her, Vos and van der Breggan and van Vleuten all mark each other out of contention and someone steals a march on them.

Pog would have to win solo.... tough to win in a sprint vs WvA.... I recon G.... so he can wear gold rimmed oakleys fpr the next 4 years 😉

Long races tend to spring surprises and not always the favorites up there (see MVDP in Yorkshire worlds). But WvA, Pog/Rog or Mollema v likely to be up there. Valverde as an outside.

Would love to see any of the Brits up there, but on recent form I doubt any will be in the front group by the Mikuni - hope I am wrong. A pity Pidcock can't ride this as well as MTB.

What do we reckon? 30 out of 130 to actually finish?

I get a feeling Tom Dumoulin will be in the mix even though he's not had much racing recently... his chasing down the leading group in the World Champs (2019 ?) was so impressive even if it was in vain and why the **** is the WC not in the french team ??????? Devalued!

I'd love to see WvA get it over Pog. The Olympic road race tends to be a bit more freestyle (chaotic) with the greater number of smaller teams so who knows. If it gets to the flat run-in to the line then WvA would likely have the sprint sewn up. So, the likes of Pog and Rog will have to drop him on the final climb. Team tactics (and alliances) could be interesting. Do the Belgians send Remco up the road? I think GB doesn't have any compelling options. Not sure if I'll get up at 5am, maybe 7...

I reckon WvA

Obviously only a fool would bet against him but I reckon it's hilly enough and the pace will be hectic enough that he'll be dropped. Plus, dropping him will be the express intention of most teams.

Inner ring has a really good explainer as you'd imagine. The interesting bit will be the selection made by the Fuji climb and who leads that out as the contenders will just sit on. Michael Woods might be a good outside tip as he was going well in the last week of the tour and could gap on the decisive climb

Don't think it has been mentioned, but this is also being broadcast on Eurosport, and in 4k (if you have the right sky box)

THis is getting going now, they're dropping like flies. Valverde just dumped out the back.

In the last 10km the bunch have pulled 4 mins back on the break !

Japanese fans look very well behaved.

They should run the Tour de France here.

Seems so Spin, not actually sure how, but he's back in... He seemed to go backwards on that climb with 1.5km left on it, so must have flown down the hill !

Eh? it’s on BBC1 now.

It was on the red button before. Through the race it cut to hockey then archery during a breakaway.

Right then, into the final stages

Wout van aert ? Or someone to attack before hand?

I'm going Pogacar with an attack 8km out and holding on.

Has to be attacks, WvA just won last week in Paris in a straight sprint. If they take it to the line they might as well give him the medal now.

BBC coverage is shocking

BBC 1 not showing the sport you want - Oh the humanity. I imagine somewhere on a forum dedicated the some other sport, some one is saying "thank christ that bike riding shit has finished" haha

Actually quite a tense race now. Slightly amusing that Carapaz is in the gold/silver fight whereas behind him Pogacar is trying to close it down.

Reversal of TdF the other week.

I never quite get this - happened in London too - I'm not putting any effort in to win a medal because it increases your chances. I'd rather let them two ride away with them than up your chance

I know it's bluff and counter but the brinkmanship is great
