One of my chainring bolts is well and truly seized. Tried jamming a screwdriver in the grooves and grabbing it pliers to stop it spinning but no joy. Whats next?

I've got a tool made from a wide screwdriver with the middle of the blade ground away to make a blunt pronged affair that fits into the notches on the 'nut' bit at the back of the chainring (if you see what I mean), that usually works.
TOP TIP.. when you reassemble, smear a very small amount of grinding paste on the outside of the nuts to stop them turning when you tighten them back up against the the back of the chainring.

i put the special tool which fits in the grooves in a vice then push on it with the crank in one hand so it dosnt slip and turn the allen key in the other hand, watch your knuckles on the outer ring teeth 😮

Use the proper Shimano tool. I sometimes clamp it in place with molgrips. Never fails.

You should get that tool. Shimano TLFC21. Put a little WD40 or penetrating oil on the bolt while you're waiting.
