Try Pashley

The Roadster Classic/26 are the only ones that look similar to the one I learned to ride.

[img] [/img]

But they are not as updated as those above ... hmmm ... 😉

Why oh why is there a Hammerschmidt on that top bike?

"Lets make a nice rolling bike, and then fit this treacle adapter as an afterthought.."

Never mind that stupid pump placement.. Have they never carried a bike up stairs?

But yeah.. Racks, 3 speeds and moustache bars are all a goodness.

I reckon just Shimano Alfine 11 speed should be good enough without that Hammerschmidt.

Yes, looked at it but it's the top tube that is doing my head in ... it's bent! Also it's not available in the UK ...

Brixton Cycles we're doing some really nice Amsterdam bikes with Rohloff hubs a few years back - no more info I'm afraid.

How about one of these? It's from a friend of mine's company and he's got another friend of mine racing one in MTB marathons.Complete with a Schlumpf two speed crank set. Or how about one of these? A bike sound system (also from the same guy).[img] [/img]

TJ ... that one ok-ish but not for long ride.

rOcKeTdOg ... that's great but I would be robbed if I ride that. Coffee bike perhaps.

Roter Stern ... the first one looks like a mtb while the 2nd one errmmm ... too fashionable.

😀

The paper bikes are a good laugh to ride, when you are used to an MTB the position is very upright but the centre of gravity is really low, feels like a scooter

Mikkel,

That's too heavy but this ”Basket Bike” is nicer ...

Antbikemike

djaustin,

Yes, was looking at that on Kinetic website but a bit too "modern".

bommer,

Not steel and no disc brakes.

This is good but need gear hub.

Go retro and get one of these with the front rack. You can carry heaps on them and they ride nicely. Crap brakes though. 🙂

Yes, that's nice but somehow not that right for me ...

I saw a kid with a very retro yet very simple bike last year but I did not manage to ask him the made of his bike. Wish I had.

OK, one more try. How about getting this little titanium beauty from XACD and fitting it to the bike of your choice? The fashionistas would be so dumbstruck by its elegance that they would still be trying to come up with suitable words of praise when you rode off into the sunset...

[img] [/img]

Or you could simply get a cargo bike - Surly Big Dummy or the like.

epicyclo,

No worry I will keep looking. The first pic looks like the one or the Pashley classic.

No, I am avoiding the titanium basket ...

🙂

pretty damn good in a full-frontal smash I reckon. Equivalent of bullbars. The sort of person riding those bikes will be transporting heavy, pretentious coffee table books and expensive wine in my blinkered, prejudiced opinion. and will destroy a badly driven mini cab pulling out from a junction, resulting in a massive explosion of asymmetrical fringe, broken trendy spectacles and quirky socks.

The tip, a skip? Seriously, why spend £100's on a 'retro' bike when hubdreds or original ones must be thrown away every year!

I reckon it's the ideal endurance riders handlebar. Fill the basket with Tesco Jelly babies and you're good for a non-stop 24 hour... 🙂

Chewkw, this is a great thread, all sorts of interesting bikes popping up.

This is why I bought my Kona Humu. Vey simply bike just to jump on and ride in town, no lycra/spd's allowed! Added slightly less ridicules bars and lovely sprung Brooks. 2 speed kickback coaster brake and front hub brake to be built into wheels. 2 Brakes, 2 gears, only one brake lever on the bars. Lovely and clean! Just got to add a nice wooden box on the back for shopping etc and it's done.

I take it as a compliment! 😳

and Swiss Army Bikes are legend!

The new ones above look quite cool. Would make great every day commuter bikes, I guess.
The old ones are meant to be indestructible:
[img] [/img]
Can't imagine how anyone could get through hilly Switzerland with them, though.
