We're all riding locally now, so I wonder - do your rides end with a climb or a descent?
My final half miles or so are climbing from the South, descending from the North. From the South it's a long false flat descent until that climb, from the North it's lumpy up and down. From the East routes follow the river gently downstream, from the West the opposite.
The terrain usually down.... my mood usually up.👍
Depends which way I head out/back. Living on a hillside means the nearest trails it’s almost straight up. Currently I’m tending to go sideways and becoming enmeshed in BIMBLEZONE ie the Path Of Least Resistance. But still feel very lucky to be cycling. Went half way up The Hills just an hr ago and zipped back down in the silent dark hating the noisy rear hub spoiling the owl sounds. If I go sideways to the South/Gloucestershire then there still comes a point after a few miles where you can’t avoid going either up or down. Getting home is either usually a fast-freewheel or a pukey-pullup

always downhill for me - I live at sea level - then 104 stairs into my flat where my bikes live - even the tandem!
I live in a valley, the rides end with a couple of miles of flattish road but there’s always a descent.
An offroad descent, a flat railway path, and then a very short but sharp road climb, just about every time
I don't like descending until I've earned up a bit and got my eye in.
Start with a climb, finish with a descent. Then there's always something to look forward to at the end of the ride and everyone finishes on a high.

Always a climb, short and steep or longer and more gentle depending on direction.
My street is old railway line, so the last 200m in each direction is perfectly flat. 🤔

Flat last couple of miles for me, usually into a headwind, as I'm pretty near the beach.
I live half way up a hill so both depending on what direction I started.

I live about 600ft up on the edge of the Pentland hills and that means my mountain bike rides tend to end with a descent to home, but my road bike roads usually end with a climb.
