went riding here today in the Clwyds...did 'over the top', with a 'red' grading. (here: http://www.ridetheclwyds.com/rideclwyds/over_the_top/map.asp?l=reset)
It was....err not amazingly exciting, but the hills are big and seem to have potential. The website suggests several others (inc an MBR 'killer') but after today's damp squib I'm a bit skeptical about their descriptions.
Does any ride around there & know any good routes please? 'Good' entails fast techy singletrack/rockyness/anything that the mags would describe as 'gnarly' (dude)
If that's what you're after maybe the Clwyds aren't right for you. The Clwyds are all about great views, long climbs and muddy bridleways. I love riding there.
Lodrik hits the nail on the head-amazing on the cx bike tho.
Ho hee hum...nice piccies.
Any thoughts on the 'killer' loop?
Love riding on my CX bike up there too, but the muddy bit after the planks needs caterpillar tracks or a hovercraft at the moment.
Killer loop... I did something very similar on Saturday but parked up at the Moel Fammau forest car park and it took almost six hours due to the conditions, up top it was frozen solid and unrideable in places, lower down it was gloopy as I've ever seen it and I've been riding up there for nearly 20 years, in fact I got off in some places and pushed to save damaging the trails even more.
Give it a fair few weeks to thaw and dry out a bit and you might get it down to the 4 hour estimate.
This loop sticks to the higher/dryer trails and makes for a more winter proof one
