I had a brilliant ride today. Great weather, dry trails and I was even managing to ride fairly well (by my standards at least) at times. Glentress was busy but the trails weren't packed and everyone that I saw was friendly. Plus I bumped into a few mates who I haven't seen for ages when I got back to the Hub.
It was made all the better because initially it had taken me a fair amount of effort to drag myself out of bed, out of my flat and to the trails. I may well have not bothered if I hadn't had a pair of new forks to bed in. Really glad I did now. ๐
Who else had a great ride today, then?
Yep, the trails around my local stomping ground were almost completly dry. Lots of traction, lots of speed and lots of fun in the sun. Riding with two good mates,on arrival back (only an hour late)found collective Mrs's doing a bbq on my decking drinking rose by the bucketful. Good times.
Yes, a near-religious experience on dusty singletrack at dusk.
Conditions are perfect out there: I don't care if I've jinxed it, I just had to say it. ๐
Broke a spoke and had another minor hiccup but even an hour in the saddle before the sun went down was the best riding I've had for ages. Great conditions right now!
I had a smashing ride this morning. Took a camera, but was having such a good time I completely forgot to use it. Started early in order to ride a few cheeky trails, including several miles of a certain well-known long distance footpath, but I reckon I saw more bikers than ramblers; only had to negotiate my way round two large gangs of miserable-looking redsocks all ride, neither of those on footpaths.
Spectacular weather, sunny but not baking hot, and with a light breeze when you needed it. Explored a lot of new ground which all turned out to be worthwhile, rode some old favourites which were all in splendid condition, and hardly had to ride any tarmac at all. And the final downhill, one of my favourites, was in better shape than I've ever seen it before. There's one particular wheel-eating bog that invariably knocks me off when it's wet, but I practically skipped over it this morning. Marvellous. Going to see if I can skive off work on Wednesday and get a rerun in before Easter with the in-laws.
Yeah, I also found it very hard to drag myself out of bed at 7.00 (after about 4hrs sleep) and drive the hour and a half to Ae. wasn't massively looking forward to it as I haven't ridden a DH bike in 6 months but it all pretty much fell back into place ๐ Had an awesome days riding and caught up with some old friends too.. knackered now tho and feel pretty old and slow compared to some of the wee pinners young enough to be my kids.. it's always the same first race of the season now tho ๐
