I'm pretty sure it's just out of its 90 day warranty too 🙁
Two things may have caused it to stop working - the first is that it was working fine, I unscrewed the cap, removed the battery and a threaded ring fell out. It looks like it's a retaining ring for the bulb-end (oo-err) of the battery, but could have come from anywhere. Anyone else seen anything like this?
The second thing is that the charger doesn't really fit its adaptor and only seems to be charging whilst hanging out of the socket a bit - the red light came on and eventually turned green, as per normal but I wonder if the batteries may just have completely discharged?!
EDIT - it's not the batteries - just tested them.
What charger is it? (pics or link if poss)
See the edit^^^ batteries are not to blame - must be something to do with the threaded ring... Tried screwing it in in various places but still no joy 🙁
Can't help with that. But once you get it fixed your charger's still going to be flakey by the sounds of it, you don't want mains kit hanging out of the socket!
Aye, it's far from ideal! Here are some pics of the ring in question. The only other place it might screw into is the end section with the clicky switch - I'd be immensely grateful if anyone with one of these torches could have a quick look and see if there's a ring like this in the end cap...
And the body of the torch - the ring does fit into the 'step' inside the barrel of the torch but not convinced that's where it's supposed to be...
That'll be either from the tailcap keeping the switch in place, or the head unit. Did you have any issues with flickering/losing modes before?
Yep mines got one of those in the switch end cap. Mine has aproblem that it keeps changing modes when I go over a bump - not handy for mountain biking
Actually, on closer inspection, the tailcap already has a similar retaining ring in place (the two tiny holes are offset though). It almost certainly is supposed to be in the main barrel of the torch - it screws in both ways but torch doesn't work either way.
Never had any issues at all before last night - it was still working perfectly just before I took the battery out for charging.
Cheers KBS - is there also one half way up the barrel - just where the battery meets the spring? If so, can you see which way round it is please? (that is, there's a lip on it - is the 'lipped' side facing the bulb or facing the battery).
Thanks!
Not in mine there ain't - maybe mine is a diff model! Mine stopped working, but when I tightened up the ring in the switch end it worked again.
Righto, thanks for looking. I'll try using a paperclip to screw it into the tailcap - might never get it out again but nothing to lose if it doesn't work I s'pose!
Oh, and it's a SkyRay XM-L T6...
Ah! Just got a paperclip in at the tailcap retaining ring, and lo and behold, it was indeed a bit loose. On tightening it, I'm finally getting a beam again albeit a bit flickery, but this is obviously the weak point so at least I know where to fettle and poke!
Cheers chaps!
Also, it now cycles through various modes when the button is half pushed in - it didn't have such fanciful things before! Just on or off!
