A good turnout today I thought, and great riding

The ST through the woods on the 1st part of route was just awesome.

Managed a sensible 85k, and only had 1 little lie down in the forest.... ๐Ÿ™„

I was thinking about the 80k route. The horrid combination of driving rain and a very stiff lower back dictated 50k only.
Think i did 3.10 or thereabouts , had to granny along the exposed part of the ridgeway straight into that wind .
Preferred the route anti clockwise as it meant fresh legs into Collingbourne woods.
Struggled after 35k and had to stop and really try to stretch my lower back. Helped abit but soon came back .
Larsens worked well everywhere , dont think i have spent so much time in the big ring before today. Its amazing what a 30mph tail wind can add to your top speed.
Steve, how did it go for you?

Mmmmmmm.......Maxiss Larsens........I was running an SB8 on the rear and it was gripping like sh*t to a blanket.

Know what you mean about the headwind, well worth the slog for Collingbourne Woods

The wind did make it very tough in places, I did the 80km route and glad i got to ride that lovely first bit of singletrack twice, it was fab!!

As always a good event arranged by the Gorrick team.

Rob, Because of riding in a group it was a bit stop - start. Managed to get a clear run through Collingbourne Woods though, slao loved the climb up to Combe. Managed to get up there in the middle ring with relative ease too, which is a first. Must be a the road riding i'm doing.

Think the bug for mountain biking is appearing again. Really enjoyed it yesterday.

Not just you judging by the numbers - I thought they'd all left for road bikes I so rarely see anyone out in the area. Good to see.

The wind across the top of Walbury was hilariously unpleasant. Luckily the freezing rain got me so cold I went numb pretty quick.

The flowing singletrack through Collingbourne Woods was excellent. It just seemed to go on and on and on......

The weather was hit and miss. One minute lovely sunshine and a total downpour the next. It started raining whilst I was in Collingbourne and by the time I started to ride through Coldridge Wood my rear Maxxis Aspen started to struggle (I really should have looked at the weather forecast before I left home).

It was lovely and sunny riding up to Combe Hill/Walbury Hill but by the time I got to the top it felt like torrential rain with the strong wind. It was so bad I had to ride past the 2nd water stop.

Anyway fininhed the 50km in about 3 hours 15 minutes and the burger at the end was lovely!

I do a lot of riding around the Cliddesden area, so it will be interesting to see what route TVT decide for October.

TVT should have also have offered a 60km route (2 loops of the 30km route). I guess a lot of riders (who didn't feel up to 80km) would have grabbed the chance to ride through Collingbourne Woods again.

No-one was stopping you doing exactly that - all the waymarking was still there until all the 80km riders had finshed, everyone was given a map...

...just required a little initiative!

One group of lads did just that and used the main fireroad drag to get back to the start of the woods singletrack for a second bash.
