User interface is nicer but more complicated than MM, also the 3D facility is far superior to MM..........but MM is much easier to use IME - I've got both and although I think Tracklogs is the better product, I prefer the simplicity of MM

i weighed the two up, and bought tracklogs simply because it was far cheaper for the area i wanted.

its pretty easy to use, my biggest gripe is that the manual/instructions are rubbish so you (well i did) had to figure out some fairly basic stuff by trial and error.

is'nt there and importing/exporting issue between the two, in that mm uses a more popular format?

p.s. in the singletrack mapping review a year or so back tracklogs was very well rated.

Both have their own proprietary file formats (TRL - TrackLogs, MMO - Memory Map). Both also support third party formats like GPX, MXF etc.

Best approach would be to download the free trials for each and make your own mind up which product suits your particular needs best. Fire any questions into the support email addresses.

Rocketdog - Is that an Edge 205? If so then double that recommendation for downloading and trying the trials. The Edge 205 is a peculiar GPS in that it's the first of the Garmin's to use courses/histories and the last of the Garmin's to use the old serial protocols. This sticks it out there on it's own in terms of software support.

TrackLogs will read the histories from the 205 and will push courses into the device (with virtual partner timings driven by Naismith performance algorithms). FWIW the next TrackLogs patch (free to v3 users) includes completely new GPS tools which simplify the whole GPS interaction.

there is a beta version available on the website which seems to be better in it's integration with Garmin Training Centre and the .tcx formats

I've been using Tracklogs for a few years but have just started using Mapyx Quo. *Much* cheaper OS maps (99p for 1:50k 10km x 10km), free software, supports just about every file format ever - so far so good!

Tracklogs site-centred 1:50k is £12 for 60km x 60km - which works out at 33p per 10km x 10km. Not sure how that makes Mapyx "much cheaper".

RD - download the trial version of them all. They should all support your Edge, but you'll just find one that "clicks" with you in terms of user interface. Mapping costs are broadly similar, and I think most/all now do some sort of "select your own mapping" system so you're not paying for stuff you don't need/want.

I'm perfectly happy with Anquet. I still believe it has the best UI and the best route handling / database system and you can download additional mapping direct from the program.. If I was looking again now, I'd have a good look at Mapyx Quo though. It's slowly developing into a more usable product and the mapping is (has been) a bit cheaper.

There are some reviews here
