Best forks, I'm thinking coil revs.
Any other frames to consider?
Tempted by a cotic soul.
Will be used for Enduros, general riding and some trail centre stuff.
ive not had mine long but i love it.
light, taught comfortable. managed 70 miles off road on my first ride no trouble.
soul and the scandal don't seem that similar?
Soul!!
Coil revs are hard to find!
I have had mine about two years now and I have to say it really is excellent.Handles nicely doesn't seem harsh and is reassuringly light.
It is however designed for 100mm fork so what it would do with anything bigger I don't know. Mine is currently wearing carbon rigid forks but now it is slightly drier I am looking for a suspension fork.
Frames are design for anything up to 130mm, I ran mine with a u-turn rev and would only really winf it down on very steep climbs. Never found it overly harsh as a frame, but it was more harsh than my new soul. And there is no scandium in 'em nowadays.
I've already got coil revs to put on it. They are currently attached to a prince albert but I'm getting drawn to something lighter. It's really down to riding on the road bike more these days and a burly PA seems just a tad too hefty for the general riding I'm doing.
Suppose a Soul is a bit pricey and it's nearly as heavy as the PA.
Anybody any experience of the new non-scandium Scandals? Or suppose they should just be called Al's ๐
mine is a no scandium scandal. stiff not harsh, dunno how it compares to a some scandium scandal as i've not ridden one.
Surely the RS Reba is the most suitable fork for the Scandal. set at 100mm or 115 they would compliment it perfectly without needing to chopper it out
Scandal and Soul are very different frames.
If you have coil revs already I would say Soul would be the best choice.
If you want a fast race/long distance bike and are starting from scratch with a Scandal I would go for Fox F Series or Rockshox SID with 100mm travel.
My Scandal has a dual air rev on it and i like it like that. Would probably climb better if it had a U turn, but I'm rubbish at remembering to make adjustments when I'm riding and I can get up most things on it anyway (or most things that I can get up on my full susser, anyway). If I had loads of money and was putting a new fork on it now, I would probably go for a 12o Reba, but the rev works well.
i like my scandal alot, light, fast very capable bike. i've riden everything from natural to trail centres and everything in between. took me alot of getting used to the longer frame coming from a short full sus but i really enjoy it.
mines a scandium one though as far as i'm aware, i dont know if its particularly harsh or not as i've only a full sus to compare to.
After doing a search I'm also considering the Pipedream Sirius or Sanderson Breath. The sirius has some excellent reviews and would fit well with my coil revs and other bits. Not found much about the Sanderson though?
I'm amazed that all these posts are so serious.
Start with the line "Tell me about the On One scandal" and someone should have been straight into "The On-One scandal? Well it involved this ex-hourno called Brant and what happened was..."
But it's a missed opportunity now
Run my 29er Scandium Scandal with 100mm Rebas and its awsome on everything up to 'super knarly'. For Enduros I think there is no better bike.
I'm definately not going for a Scandal after seeing that photo ๐
since when and why did they stop using scandium? and shouldn't it just be called an al, then?
Its only the new slot-dropout ones that arnt scandium, the old ones were only a few % scandium anyway and 'it makes on discernable difference' apparently (tho i cant figure out why they bothered if it makes no difference, smacks a bit of the turner 4-bar/faux-bar scenario). They prob should be called the 'Al' but then they prob wouldnt sell as many.
i getcha, stato, i getcha. cheers. ๐

An engineering buddy has told me that they put a small amount of scandium in the metal mix to make it easier to weld thin tubes without suffering from cracks when the weld cools down.
He reckons there isnt enough scandium in the alloy to make any difference to the ride and if you added enough scandium to make a difference the frame would cost thousands.
Personally I like my scandal but its still just a frame, its not going to make you a better rider whatever its made out of.
