Sorry to be ignorant, everyone seems to be talking about On-One hardtails , seem to sell like hot cakes in the clasified.
Personally it's not my favorite looking frame, but that is not to say they aren't a good ride.
I just don't know a lot about them, please enlighten me as to what the appeal is.
What sort of word count do you want? Powerpoint presentation? How much time do we have to prepare this for you?
I hate TELL ME ABOUT threads.
SO RUDE.
I did say please!
Cheap basically
Good VFM and good riding, well thought out stuff is my personal opinion on them.
One of my favourite ever bikes was my mk1 SS Inbred. Rode as well, if not better than the mk2 Cotic Soul I had at the time and my current Curtis S1.
On-one are a direct to customer type deal similar to Canyon. Initially a website only affair they now have a shop in Rotherham too.
I've had 5 frames/bikes off them now and they've all been awesome. Paint finish isn't always the best and the steel bikes are fairly heavy but its no nonsense stuff that works well and lasts forever.
If you don't have mega bucks to spend you can build a very nice bike for not much money
I automatically assume anyone on an On-One is a mincer.
I've had 2, the Scandal was great, really would recommend it... The C456 was good to ride but badly made, chunks of finish fell off it and On One ratted out of their supposed 2-year warranty. Don't see me buying from them again tbh, not because of the fault but because of the aftersales.
great company and products.
sometimes the V1 of certain frames leave a bit to be desired but their V2s are usually bob on!
are you old enough to remember Amstrad computers and Hi-Fi? or those Yugo, Lada and Dacia cars?
Bought an Inbred 29er last year, as a XC/commuter/ride with the kids bike, got it built up rigid with steel forks as well. it's my first ever steel frame and my first ever 29er but it seems great. Nice to ride, fast, nicely finished and a lot more capable than the stuff I'm riding it on atm. Only cost me £140 (frame only) as well.
From reading stuff on here it seems they've had their problems with some frames but mostly they seem to be making decent stuff at decent prices.
They're good, very good for the money. Lack the fine finish of major brands, but make for a nice frame to shove nice things on and ride.
Their Worsborough shop is closed Mondays and Tuesdays.
I know this 'cause I called yesterday.
HTH
It's a little known fact, but part of my STW name comes from theirs.

Seem good value for money but a bit dull. They're not really made for my sort of riding, seems that they're too long and stable to be much fun on proper jumps and stuff. Maybe the small would be ok.
Just as I was about to post a question about them....
Thinking about a 456Carbon
http://www.on-one.co.uk/i/q/FBOOC456V2/on_one_456_x9_carbon_mountain_bike
Any opinions??
Like their carbon bikes - have a whippet which has been excellent and even looks pretty good IMHO. The C456 has some challenging aesthetics but is reported to be a v good ride (and great value for money). Also owned a Scandal (Al) for a short time that I liked.
Their steel MTBs aren't for me, but I do have a pompino which is a great commuting bike on the road. Overall I'm a fan.
Customer service is a bit shambolic, although not in a Yorkshire way - they're nice blokes when you speak to them on the phone. Loads of minor fk-ups IME in a way that would not be a big deal with a one-man band, but it sort of surprising from a company that has a few staff.
On one are stupidly good value frames and builds..
There customer service in the stores is second too none imo.
Frames look great too me. But I know they are kind of marmite.. especially the carbon..
Also on one have a branch down south somewhere and also another outlet just opened in barnsley. And they are doing fairly well in the us market too.
Look out for their regular special offers and clearance of old stock/frames.
My steel 456 frame I got on sale from them was the best £89.99 I have spent.Been doing my best to break it for 4 years so I can upgrade to a newer model. No joy so far 🙂
OMG and stuff.

got a 456 at the mo - geometry's good but back end is quite long, harsh ride though. was expecting that steel 'zing' got booted up the ar5e by a mule instead. You can get some spring out of it when its up to speed on trail centre type surfaces but most of the time it's pretty dead. On the plus side it's bright pink and........cheap.
Oh yeah the carbon ones are gruesome looking and even harsherer...so i hear
Quite a few on here have bought as a second bike, only to harp on how much their main bike no longer gets used. 😉
They are far from perfect, paint, chainslap and dare I say rusty gussets 😉 But all that can be forgiving for the money and smile factor, they are hard to beat.
I love my C456 and would take it everwhere if i wasnt getting old and soft.
Brant - FS C456 please 🙂
C456 Evo! Thats what we need.weve had the regular and ti..
They are a company who used to sell 14" frames, but as soon as I want one, have stopped 🙁
Wasn't there a thread about a C456 Evo t'other day? Apparently looks different but same angles.
Brilliant bikes, website & deals.
Also, every time you phone them you get the nicest people ever to talk to.
On the other hand, I have had 3 On-one/PX frames and they have all been defective in some way.
First white Inbred - terrible paint, disc mount badly welded so had to hand file it straight (OO advised me to do this)
853 inbred - well known chainstay issue caused huge gouges in metal, sold mine quickly but my brothers chainstay snapped and he got Argos cycles to fix it with a properly designed chainstay. Attitude of OO was "ooh yes we know about that, maybe we should sort the problem out"
PX kaffenback - unable to use 11t cassette as chainstays designed/made wrongly.
My brothers C456 has had headset issues which were the fault of the design of it.
I bought their products as they were all I could afford but I will never again buy something from them. Now have a Specialized Pitch and a Kinesis road bike - the kinesis was same price as Kaffenbak was but is nicely finished, great paint and not a single issue to report. Spesh is the same.
My 1994 Kona Kilauea is better designed than any of the On-ones I've had.
My 1994 Kona Kilauea is better designed than any of the On-ones I've hadI've allways been a Kona fan too and can't get past them. My hardtail is a Caldera and the bonncy one is a Dawg. Allways keen to try what otheres are riding though hence the On-one question.
I'd stick with what you have if I were you.
Have used a Pompino in the past for commuting. Solid frame, good VFM nice to think of it as disposable at that price.
i see ill have to get the shirt to go with the bike!
are you old enough to remember Amstrad computers and Hi-Fi? or those Yugo, Lada and Dacia cars?
Distinctly untrue and an awful comparison.
Very good products at bargain prices.
And I don't think my c456 is harsh at all. Less harsh than a platinum OX steel Kona Explosif.
C456 is doing me proud at the moment. Had it since January and clocked up about 750miles so far, just can't get enough of it. 🙂
I don't understand the comments about it being too stiff, its got a noticeable give over my old aluminium hardtail but when you pedal it transmits every push into rocketing you forwards. I can't ever imagine not having it!
Totally agree with you Kristoff. Ive had my c456 for 6 months and it is truly brilliant. Rode it all day round Hopton Woods recently and it was very comfortable and handled perfectly. The only component that let me down that day was the rider! I want mine to last a few years so I've recently got a ss steel inbred for the commute and thats superb too. Cant recommend Onone bikes enough.
On One Fanboi Warning
I've had my 456 for four years, and it's been faultless. Currently set up as a 100mm singlespeed. It's not light or flashy, but does everything it sets out to do.
I fail to acknowledge the "well known chainsuck issue". Chainsuck is caused by poor maintenance, not poor frame design.
The frame didn't cause chainsuck itself, but the clearances were so tight that if the chain was picked up at all it jammed between the chainset and stay, causing big gouges in the metal.
Brant admitted it was wrong himself on here.
Argos cycles replaced my brothers chainstay with one with as much usable clearance but a different shape and he hasn't had a problem since.
On-one uses its customers as testers and doesn't even fix issues straight away when they know about them.
Wanna know why all the headtubes are so short? Brant makes some sort of design reason nowadays but the original reason was that he forgot to change the headtube lengths when he made the different frame sizes and never bothered changing it.
I have been tempted to by OO bikes and PX (Stealth or exocet) in the past - indeed came close to pressing the button on the whippet in the sale yesterday. But being a mechanical numpty, I find it (1) difficult not to be overwhelmed by the website - seriously (!) and (2) the long history of mechanical niggles reported here and on other forums always make me suspicious. I always end up asking, are they good value (?) for good (?) reason? I hope that isn't the case as they seem to be well intentioned and happy to respond on here and elsewhere.
I appreciate your argument, and concede that the design isn't perfect. Quirky, is probably a good description. As for the chainsuck, why not use a smaller chainring?

Companies like Specialized have plenty of resources to pour into research and development to iron out the creases. Unfortunately, a small company doesn't have the same capability.

Wanna know how penicillin was invented? 😉
Your results will obviously vary, but i love them.
C456 here, happy
cfinnimore - mincer.
