I'm considering booking a 2 week holiday to majorca end of march to try to get fit. I'll be going on my own and realisticly will be far too unfit to join up on any guided group rides

Any suggestions on where to go, approx cost, best companies to go with etc etc.Is it best to get a package through a specialist firm, or book flights, hotels seperately?

Also, whlst I'm happy to cycle on my own, is it likely I'll be spending my evenings alone in my hotel room, or is it fairly sociable out there? When I go to alps on the mtb you always meet loads of folks, but I know roadies are a serious bunch

A couple of options that I can think of.  Mallorca MTB have just launched and their website is now up and running.  Or, if you want to do your own thing (and stay in Soller) check out Tramuntana Tours for route ideas and good hire bikes.

If you google "rock and ride mallorca" you'll find a pdf of routes that you can download.

You don't know many roadies then.

It's mostly train hard while regretting the previous nights excesses.

With a company you'll also get a suitable group to ride with and a bunch of new friends. Unless you are completely socially inadequate/incompetent.

You'll also have mechanics, ride leaders, local knowledge and most of the companies offer half board as well. So less meals to worry about before a long ride.

Base yourself in Port de Pollensa, their are group rides from the main shops, or (I think) Tollos.

The Fergus Style (was pollensa park) hotel usually has plenty of roadies staying, so should be good to meet folk,

Enjoy yourself!

I can’t help with MTB holidays - but if you want road then Stuart Hall Cycling is excellent. I went there last April with my club & it was so good I returned in November. Returning with the club again this April.

Many people return - often on their own - year after year. Different levels of group rides are led each day & the commeradere is brilliant. You all stay in the same hotel & soon pal up with others who were on your day rides for evening meals.

The roads are fast & smooth & drivers incredibly courteous - it’s a real road cycling Mecca. They do bike hire & It’s reasonably priced too.
