I want to get a seat for the 2yo, and so far Hamax seem to be the best, but there are quite a few options. Budget around £50-70.

It's going to be (mostly) on a 26" mtb that already has a rear rack which I'd like to continue to use so that we can go into town or carrying stuff for longer days out - but I believe this is difficult.

What's the forum's experience on this please?

Try a Weeride http://www.weeride.com/
The seat sits on its own bar which goes above your top tube, clamping around the top of the seat tube and headtube. The seat is detachable, but the bar remains unless you unscrew it.

My kid loves it and I much prefer it as I can mount it safely on a full sus and go offroad. Mucjh better view for your kid too 😉

I got mine from Tesco direct pretty cheap.

I used rhode gear limo, they also do a taxi. The taxi doesn't recline but I think thats not so importnat for a 2 year old.

They are a bit over budget but are designed to fit to a bike rack (which is included) so meets your requirements

I think the taxi is £80.....

The hamax ones are good and v solid - been using one for about 18 months with our lad (now 2 and a half). They do a pannier to fit under the seat as well but it's a bit pish - works OK but awkward to take on and off. Not sure if the seat will fit any rack - I got the hamax rack with the seat when I bought it.
