[#2451550]

So this 1 x 10 speed'
is it for xc racing

is it for am riding

does it have enough spread from long hills ( or is a case of mTFU)

do i just need
10 sp shifter
10 sp cassette
10 sp chain

any chainring and crank will do?

what chain guide do i need?

or does a double ring and bashguard be better and would i need a different front mech?

I ride 1x10, 11-36.
Spread of gears is fine for me for the riding I do - but it wouldnt be enough for me for long grinding hills.
I run a bash guard up front only, others run chain guides to stop chain coming off - never been a problem for me but again I guess thats down to the type of riding you do.
Yes, at a min you need 10sp mech, shifters, cassette and chain imo.

I'm currently 2x9 but will am planning on 1x10 soonish. hoping the 9-36T cassette from Hope will come to fruition.
x-7 mech + shifter
sram chain
Hope cassette
and one of these http://superstar.tibolts.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=362

I'm expecting it to have nearly a big a range as my current 2x9 setup and I'll use it for trail riding and a touch of mini-dh.

If hope don't come out with 9-36 then I might stay 2x9

For clarification my 2x9 is 26/36 at the front and 11-32 rear which gets me up pretty much anything I want and very rarely spins out on the way down.
Ideally for 1x10 I'd want a 30T on the front but can't see that happening really.
