Hi all, I want to switch my Unit's flat bar to some dirt drops, and would appreciate some advice about whether Tektro RL340 levers will work with Avid BB7s?
From some reseach it seems like the RL340s get specced with BB7 road brakes .... does anyone know if these are effectively the same brake as BB7s fitted to MTBs and the only difference is the rotor size?
I think the amount of cable pull is different on road vs mountain bike brakes. AFAIK, you wouldn't get enough power using road levers - unless they make a drop specific MTB version.
Thanks.... had another look and Tektro RL520s look like they'll do the job
Thinking of trying some drops on my inbred single speed myself and had similar thoughts .... don't know whether to go bb5/bb7 or shimano or tektro lyra ?
cheers
stumpy, from personal experience, avoid the tektro lyras they are crap, little power, zero modulation.
ive recently switched to hayes mx5, used with tiagra sti levers, they are a big improvement in every way.
@ martymac ... cheers for the advise , will go look at them
i can catergorically state that Tektro RL340's do not work with BB7 mtb brakes as that is the combo i have at the mo and now need to swap the calipers out for road versions.
Cheeky plug ,does anyone have any Road BB7's they would like to swap for a set of brand new Mtb BB7's, or could be interested in Hayes CX5 or Shimano CX75/r515
