UPDATE: Reviews section refreshed, redesigned, searchable: Go take a look
Hiya folks,
Building up a hardtail with old parts I've got lying around. One part that is prehistoric but good quality I am going to use is an stx rc chainset (triple).
Can anyone advise what length BB axle I need? I'm guessing 113 but I don't know for sure.
Oh its on an On One 456 summer season frame.
Cheers
Paul
Axle length is a function of the crank specification normally.
The 456 is designed around a standard 47.5mm chainline and typically cranks such as middleburn or Truvativ etc would need 113mm axle lengths to produce that chainline, as you say.
Given the tight chainring clearance I've always used 118mm axle length BBs with my Inbreds (853, Scandal, 456) with my square taper chainsets with no shifting/chain line issuses
