If it's any help, I can average about 240-250W over an hour, and that will leave me absolutely ****ed. I'm crap though, and I'll average 180bpm doing it.

Cav was in 2nd wheel, then looked like he had to sprint from about 15th place? What happened..

don't know why EBH got Cav to second wheel 1.5 km out. he's better off freestyling with leadouts like that!

Cracking finish though, got to love the gorilla!

Looked like Cav had to work too hard in the last 2km and lost energy.
For a moment it was EBH up front with Cav behind, but it was way too early.

Edit: I think they did it because they were worried about the break staying out. It was pretty close!

I cant help but think that with a full lead-out team Cav would have won that..

it looked to me as if Cav decided they weren't going to catch the break and let up a bit and the realised they were and the hesitation did for him. Or the crash took it's toll.

I can ride with a big bunch at 25mph easily enough.

On the flat....

For a couple of hours...

On one day....

It's at the sprints or the mountains that these guys show off. No point burying yourself all tour - no-one would benefit, cos they'd all be too knackered to attack anything.

It looks to me that Sky are leading Cav out to the 3km point to protect Wiggins. After 3km to go it doesn't matter so much if there's a crash that delays Wiggins as he won't lose time, then they're leaving Cav to it.

What other explanation is there for Wiggins being second in a long Sky train on the way in, then all disappearing when they get to the business end?

I was wondering earlier if Cav would be of any use to the team as a whole, if he gave up looking for points..?

You can follow Laurens ten Dam on Strava and see his (estimated) watts during the Tour. QI.

BTW, Wiggo was saying earlier that it's so easy for them if they just sit in the peleton in the 1st week that they'll lose fitness.

Cav says he tried to drop back a bit with 1km to go and take a run up but it didn't work and he left himself too much to do.
Tomorrow's the last chance of a bunch sprint for a week.
They'll be sharpening those elbows tonight!

I heard he'd dropped weight and power for this year's tour. As a result he's lost a bit of top end speed, making him appear almost human. Is this going to compromise his Olympic dream, or if he drops out in a few days time can he rest up, feed up and get back to full power (or close to) by the 29th?

He's slimmed down because of the Olympics. He needs to get over Box Hill 9 times before he even thinks about contesting a sprint finish.

A clip of Farrar getting a touch angry after the race:

Never managed to watch the stage, only got to listen to the end when leaving work. Consensus seems to be he caused the crash?

He's in my team and not getting me many points! ๐Ÿ‘ฟ

Farrar doesn't have much to whine about, it was just the usual last 5km handbags, it's only because he touched Pettachi's wheel he went over rather than being the Argos rider's fault.
Sagan almost saved it again to, he dodged the initial crash but came off due to the bike going across his path, I reckoned he'd have bunny-hopped it normally but I guess his brain was still trying to avoid the first incident, nice folding wheel though.
