Thomas is a class rider!
thats were froome failed, he didnt mentally have it following the crash yesterday.
Can't believe anyone doubts Froome's mental toughness ๐
Anyway... back to the race.... bloody hell Astana, riding away from Sagan and Cancellara with 10k to go!
In a podcast interview with Brailsford pre-tour, he was saying it was time for Geraint to work on his climbing and become a GC guy. Looking forward to that - he's always been one of my fav riders.
Nice squeeze past Spartacus by Sagan who seemed to lean in on him.
Gwan Nibbles!

Interesting, yet more over emphasis on stage races and not one day classics from Sky? sad to see
Can see them giving this to Boom if he helps them to the line.
Given he's placed quite highly in PR and presumably quite decent at finding the right place to ride in such situations it doesn't seem all that irrelevant - not given that this stage was one where Wiggo was touted as being quite a useful man to have on your team.
In the wet Giro last year he was bloody awful in the wet. Descended like I do (which is slow) and crashed a lot. I don't think he'd have been any help today.
I like this from the Eurosport feed
Nibali in 2006: 'Roubaix is the race of my dreams. It fascinates me, maybe because I like mountain biking. I'd like to do & win it one day.'
Glad I put him in my team ๐

Whereas my heart sank, he should keep the meat on him and do this against boonen and cancellara in a propper classic :-/
Astana have been fantastic today.
Contador is out of it at this rate. Bad day for GC favourites
Crashing twice on an already injured wrist will take anyone out, all the internet hard men calling Froome a wimp can STFU.
Anyway.. Allez Nibbles!!! seriously classy ride today, much as I feel for Froome it's been a fantastic day's racing.
Westra awarded the Combativity prize for the day. Good on 'im!
atlaz - MemberContador is out of it at this rate. Bad day for GC favourites
...except Nibali
Not seen much of Porte but looks like he's going to be bothering the Rapha tailors tonight too.
Well yes. That goes without saying but Froome out, Contador nearly 3 mins behind is quite a shocking day
Boom!
Porte and Thomas putting time into Contador/Valverde too.
What a ride from Boom
Bertie's bonked by the looks of it.
what
a
race
wow. I might have to watch both the ITV and EuroSport highlights tonight.
Looking forward to Contador attacking in the mountains now ๐
It's set up the rest of the race beautifully. Well done Nibbles. ๐
well thats something, once froome went down i feared a dull race without a climbing challanger to contador but i'll take nibali with a 3 minute headstart. ๐
Looking forward to Contador attacking in the mountains now
Looks like he may need a visit from his special butcher!
wow what a stage....
WHAT a stage! Well pleased for Nibali and also for Lars Boom - you'd never guess he's a previous CX World Champ would you! ๐
Great to see Porte and Thomas pick it up with no hesitation. Nibali's not going to be too worried by the mountains, hopefully some dry roads so he can throw himself down some of the descents.
Time for Greg Lemond and his dickhead sidekick.
all that sunshine did Yorkshire a disservice ๐
Porte 8th on GC
Amazing performance by Nibbels
all that sunshine did Yorkshire a disservice
I've just turned on - is this not Yorkshire?
That sounded fun just by text!
I'm so glad my boss is off for 2 weeks & we have a TV here at work ๐
Still going to have to watch all of it again as I was flitting in and out of the mess room pretending to work ๐
BOOM indeed
for stage 5 the time gaps are massive ๐ฏ
I'm liking the Greg Lemond and his sidekick bit, as I'm stuck in Brussels and all I'm hearing is flemish on the TV coverage up to this point.
Wow, what a dramatic day.
Just trying to catch up, read back through the thread.
Fantastic. Just overloaded with excitement and information, gonna take a while to process all this.
I fell in love with Porte a while ago, I believe during the TT stage of the tour last year. I'm gutted for Froome, but so excited to see what Richie can do.
What a stage.
BOOM BOOM SHAKE SHAKE THE FROOME
clever ploy Geraint and Richie putting time into Bertie, Richie can sit in behind and let Contrador & his team do all the work chasing down Nibali.
Can't wait for the mountain stages now, it'll be like cat and mouse (hopefully!!)
Phew, wow, what a day, proper bike racing!
Anyone put Nibali in their fantasy team specially for today???
