I think Arkea are going for the Combativity - Pichon knew that Powless was going to sit up after the final climb and leave him to it but it'll be one of those unwritten rules - Pichon let Powless get all the KOMs, Powless let Pichon get the intermediate sprint "win" and now the Combativity and the extra TV time.

but the DS told Powless to tell Pichon he's going keep riding after the climbs for his "morale" over the radio.

Yeah but there were some subsequent messages from Arkea and just now they've given him a load of praise over the radio so they're not unhappy with the situation.

And the race crosses into the French side of Basque Country!

Yeah, they're mostly all there, leadouts getting organised, teams trying to be at the front.

It's not quite full on yet but it's pretty rapid, everyone pushing to be at the front.

Momentary lull now as they rearrange. It's a very technical run in.

Awesome.... i'll go grab a beer.. I'm not expecting Cav to beat them all.... but hey, lets cross fingers and toes and see.

not flat though is it - 3% rise for the final bit I think. Who does that suit?

don't think the rise is long enough to have much impact (not at the speeds they are going to hit it). it's been quite a grind for 30km

They're all there lining up for it but I reckon Jasper Philipsen or Dylan Groenewegen.
Possibly Caleb Ewan?

Philipsen got a bit squeezed at that roundabout, he chose the wrong side.

Another rearrangement, another slight lull and then almost immediately another another rapid pace pickup.

Pichon has been awarded the Combativity prize so a decent day out front for him.

Philipsen. He got a great leadout, the team were all there.
All over the line safely.

Cav 6th.

ITV4 highlights doing a good package as usual - a few extra bits of history, scenery pics and analysis etc

WvA not looking so imperious as usual....going back for ice, not ideal position knowing the parcour and still getting squeezed to the barrier (through no fault of Philipson), showing proper anger yesterday........Are there cracks in JV?

Never seen ITV4 coverage before but in the UK on hols with crap wifi so it's the only option and it's really rather good, I'm liking the approach and the summary of the day up to the final 30k and then letting you watch that play out is pretty good.

Finding UK charity ads a bit much though

Someone is missing a trick by not hooking the donkey sanctuary up with the "they walk for miles to get water" kids.

There's got to be some sort of partnership arrangement there...

If all British Cycling fans had a whip round could we get enough money to pay MVdP to lead out Cav?
