Why are the taped seams coming away on a couple of my waterproofs?
Can tumble drying at low temperatures be causing this or is a manufacturing fault?
Probably. I personally don't go near a washing machine with waterproofs, never mind a tumble dryer.
Surely with waterproofs you hose them off if anything. I have only ever washed mine under the shower then let them drip dry. Softshells I reproof every now and then.
But how do you get the mud off?
You actually need to wash them, as dirt blocks the pores and grease even from your skin affects the fabric. Dirt particles are also often sharp and can wear away at the membrane. But you do need special detergent NOT normal washing stuff, and you need to make sure your machine is clear of detergent gunk.
Tumble drying can reactivate the DWR and is recommended by some garment makers. However I think the tumbling can sometimes help wear it away.
Anyway - OP: it's heat applied tape, so try ironing it back on. Yes, you can iron waterproofs, as a way of rejuvenating DWR - check the label.
If they're Endura and they're not really old then you may have luck with contacting them. My MT500 shorts were peeling away after three years of use and I got them replaced.
They're not Endura but you're right. I have a pair of Endura trousers and they were excellent when they trousers failed.
