In case anyone is interested ..........

Had enough of this weather? Bored? Well, you may be interested to see what I have been up to during the rain.

First it was Tandem 1:- 29er Full Suspension conversion from Hardtail Frame ...... Well that was finished just in time for the start of the autumn; and I guess we have done a thousand miles, or even more, on the hills.

Now it's Tandem 2 26er full suspension conversion and build.

Why? .... well because it was raining and because we wanted to really try the difference with a 26"er which would give us much greater standover and shorter wheel base but with the disadvantage of less tracktion on the rear with the smaller wheels. One of our biggest problems over the winter has been rear wheelspin whilst climbing steep ascents and thats despite trying a range of different tyres ... it's just the power of two in this dreadful mud.

Again this frame has been designed to also take a 200mm shock, mounted in the forward holes, as well as the fitted 190 shock.

Alex - Well we have only done one ride on it and yes we are really chuffed with it; seems petty nimble and it feels really stiff.

You can see that due to the narrower dia. of the rear seat tube I was able to totally encapsulate it and still fit the front mech; as a result that maintains the integrity of the original frame. Plus the monochoc reinforcing provides both lateral and direct stiffness; I also added that feature to the 29er Tandem and it makes a huge difference to the ride and feel.

We have got some woods locally where we went with our little hacksaw and made a downhill slalom course - that will be a good test as when we go down it with the 29er my parner fends off the trees as I cut around the bends; I think this tandem will enable us to be somewhat more aggresive.

That's fantastic.
We've got a Viking Saratoga. this is how it came...

Both seats are a lot higher now, so I'm a bit concerned about the front seat tube in particular.
I thought about extending it, then adding another top tube.
Having read this thread, I now realise I need a TIG welder. ๐Ÿ˜€

Graham, you can see how I extended the front seat post; do all the preparation etc. and just take it to a man that's good with a tig. Job done.
