Thinking of getting some new lights on the C2W scheme - are Exposure still the go-to lights?

Pretty sure that the Diablo would be the better option for a helmet light but would you go SixPack or MaXx-D for main light?

Is it worth the extra and getting the SYNC versions?

Also with C2W can you base it on sale prices? Notice Evans have a good discount on Exposure at the moment.

Specifically for the C2W by the time the paperwork has been processed and the voucher arrives the sale price may no longer be valid, so I'd suggest basing on RRP so you can be sure of what you can buy.

Wouldn't bother with the Sync feature, they're so easy to switch between modes anyway. I went for a Joystick and Maxx-D and have been very happy with them. The Maxx-D decided to stop working before Christmas but it was sent back and returned quickly after a factory reset and has been perfect since.

The Maxx-D feels like more than enough light, I can't ever think I've needed more power, so unless you want literally hours of burntime I can't see the worth of the SixPack, I can get 3 hours out of the Maxx-D in the most powerful Reflex mode, which is more than enough for me.

The Joystick is good, but in hindsight I think the Diablo would be the better choice, just for the extra burntime in lower powered modes; I run the Joystick on full power on descents and in one of the lower powered modes on climbs and fireroads and struggle to get much more than 90 minutes out of it.

As far as C2W goes I would imagine some retailers would insist you paid RRP, as some C2W scheme providers charge the shops are fair chunk of margin in return, but it's worth an ask.

Imn - Do you apply for lets say £500 for safety products and get a voucher for £500 then you apply the voucher when you purchase online?

lawman, what mk of joystick are you using? I have a diablo, but am tempted for the newer joystick, as the diablo is a bit floody, I prefer a punchier, spottier light.

Thanks both.
I spoke to Evans and they've said they'll honor the Sale prices.
Handily, if I don't get my certificate within the sale period I've put enough in to cover the RRP of the non-sync versions of the SixPack and Diablo.
Speaking to a couple of guys from work and the time for the certs to come through varies from a couple of days to a few weeks so will see what happens.

Nobeerinthefridge, I have a Mk13 Joystick and don't find it overly spotty/punchy compared to my MTB Batteries V2. What version Diablo do you have? Have you considered the latest Axis?

I've had a Maxx-D light for over 10 years now and it's still going strong and without any issues ..fantastic bit of kit.

I splashed out on a Joystick/Diablo combo in the christmas sales, great torches for the money.

I'd buy the piggy back battery while you are at it.
You can't see the indicator light if the light is on your helmet.
Flicking between all the modes my diabolo and joystick are flashing after 1 hour 45.

Acht cobblers. Unless Evans has growm a conscience under Mike Whatsisname you can buy whatever you want.

E.g. a bike for your kid.

Allegedly

@ Shortyj15 - I've only done C2W twice: once for a bike and then for dynamo light system including wheel build. From what I remember, I just applied (during a 4 week application window) for a total amount and had to declare it was for eligible categories. Once the voucher arrived (perhaps a month after application window closed) I spent it in store, on the basis of the written quote I'd asked for.

I've had a MAxxD for a couple of years as a main light. It's really very good. The only thing that would make me want the 6 pack is if I was either regularly doing 24 hour races or doing mega gnarly riding in the dark. For general winter night riding duties the MAxx D is excellent.

I’d buy the piggy back battery while you are at it.

I'd second that, or get Smudge at mtb batteries to build you one. The back-up batteries don't get much, erm, exposure and they do slightly go against the whole thing of having a stand-alone light with internal battery, but if you want to increase burn-time, it's an easy way to do it. The small ones double battery capacity with a Joystick/Diablo and double burn times, the large one is a 3x bigger unit, but won't mount on your helmet. Top lid of pack works or jacket pocket.

My Diablo & SixPack combo is amazing. Apart from cost they are the best on the market.

Recently upgraded a Joystick to a Diablo Mk9 which is a great helmet light. The battery only last 1 hour or so on full power but the low power mode is more than enough for climbs.

Coupled with the MaxxD Mk9 they keep me riding all winter - Expensive but should last a bit longer than the chinese ebay lights

The main selling point for me is that they are so easy to dip on unlit cycleways
You can just rotate it on the bar for maximum vision but if another cyclist is coming the other way it's easy to point it at the ground.
Better than riding along with your hand over your light.

Maxx-D is more than enough for my riding, sixpack would be even more OTT. If I'm riding by myself it can be on high reflex for a few hours, also powering my redeye rear light, and still get home with plenty to spare. More normal night riding I'll leave it on low (the 12 hour runtime setting) which is more than enough when following someone so as to not leave them in shadow, with some bursts of high if I'm in front, and I'll have more than half the battery left.

Picked up a mk12 Joystick and usually have that on the medium setting, it lasts a couple of hours at least like that and is plenty bright enough.

hmmm, only a fiver difference between SixPack and MaxxD on Evans at the moment.
My certificate has been approved just waiting for it to be issued so fingers crossed can get them at the sale price.

Well ordered my lights today with my cyclescheme voucher - almost forgot I could get 10% off too with British Cycling so added a pair of Endura Singletrack trousers to the order.

Got MaXx-D Mk11 (SixPack had gone back up in price) and Diablo Mk10 Sync with support cell winging there way to me soon hopefully.

I followed this thread with interest but went for the Joystick in the end (to complement the ancient but still going strong 1600 Fluxient on my bars).

I ended up paying £103 for the Carbon MK13 from CRC (I signed up a new account and got a £10 off voucher). That was the cheapest I could track it down on line I didn’t particularly want the carbon one but it was cheaper than the Aluminium version.

Used it for first time last night and it was excellent (and the weight was not noticeable on the helmet).

The Diablo looks great - Joystick just more suitable for my needs.
