Any experience?   I've seen reviews from "hunk of iron that chews up free hubs" to "bargain trickle down 12sp technology, crisp as..."

Whats the real world experience if you'd be so kind...?

I’ve used it a few times. It’s heavy, it’s cheap, it works.

If I was on a budget and not caring about weight I’d have no issues putting it on my bike.

Seen quite a few failures in the shop already. Mostly disintegrating mechs.

Consider GX mech / shifter plus Sunrace 12 speed cassette. Lighter, cheaper and IMHO better than an all SX setup.

That's a standard Shimano freehub innit?

I'd consider 11sp xt or slx instead, and sell the SX stuff new on eBay.

The cassette is heavy but being steel will last long but best used on a steel freehub not alloy as it's all solid block no alloy spider.
The mech uses bushing in the jockey wheels like nx but shifting is fine but sadly like the nx the mech suffers from stiffening up after a few wet rides due to heavy use of plastic .it holds on to the low gear .frequent light oil aleviates this for a few rides .
Shifter is fine but band on only
The cranks are better looking than nx and gx imo
I tend to mix n match my drivetrains rather than buy a complete sx\sx\gx setup
However due to continuing issues with sticking mechs I'm currently running
Nx cassette
GX chain
Nx cranks
Shimano Slx 12 spd shifter and mech

Well this all sounds a bit rubbish.   It comes as oem on a potential new bike so I don’t have the choice to mix and match, and I’m certainly not adding replacements to the cost on day 1.    That’s that bike ruled out then, but thanks for the feedback.

We've sold tons of SX and its been fine with no real difference in warranty or issues than any other SRAM group. The weak point is probably the SX mech, which seems a lot cheaper made than NX, but to be fair, it is a lot cheaper than NX! Otherwise the rest of the group is solid. SRAM were supplying NX cassettes instead of SX for a while so I suspect alot of SX bikes actually have NX cassettes but their owners don't realise but still do moan about the weight 😉

Very different to real world experience.

In the nicest possible way it means nothing with statistics, and also - it hasn't been through a British winter yet?  Looking specifically at Big-Buds post, my potential new bike is a winter bike and I need an element of reliability.  Admittedly thats an experience level of one...

Is this the Scandal?

If so, just get the GX model for £100 more - bit of a no-brainer.

Thought that might be too obvious a solution.

I think these budget groupsets and forks are all well and good to help brands hit appealing price points - but I certainly don't want that tat on my bikes when stuff like SLX is so affordable.

Sometimes it makes sense to take it off and replace but other times you're effectively buying a frame with all crap stuff on it.

The GX Scandal looks like it just needs a dropper and possibly better wheels/tyres to make it a ride how I'd want.

Indeed.  Which is why I'm waiting impatiently for the XT/SLX 2020 Vitus Sentier 29 to get prices on CRC's website, because thats probably where I'm heading.

Still musing over a P7 though 😀

Just bought a bike fitted with SX kit and managed to snap the RD at the main pivot after a day, only took a slight mishap with the shifting adjustment, caused by swapping to a smaller front chain-ring, which must have reduced the clearances a tad though it shifted ok if a little clunky on the bench. 1st shift under load and the rear mech must have got a little to close to the cassettes big cog and ping snapped clean off ,oof, luckily I wasn't far from the shed as I was just checking how iffy the shifting was. I had mostly got the bike with SX kit as plan was to wear it out and upgrade, just wasn't expecting to so some of those upgrade swaps so soon.
