Having just spent a happy hour or so supervising the kids at the lookout adventure playground, I've been struck by a) the unusuall balance of the sexes ( which is great of course) b) the number of people on flats. I must come and check out the riding sometime soon (the surrey hills are on my doorstep, so it rarely seems worth driving except for longer distances.

Oh yes ladies do venture into Swinley Forest but they are of course accompanied by a man who can fix their punctures, show them the singletrack, making certain they don't get lost, carry a mobile and know how to use it, offer hugs when they have an off.

Flat pedals? Well, simples, blokes think our pretty little heads can't cope with spd's.

There was a rumour about some mad woman showing a group of riders around the Forest. ๐Ÿ˜ฏ

Everybody knows that women can't read maps!

i think she was just lost. i was part ofg that group and remember her riding down lots of twisty little trails when I am sure it was far quicker to stay to the main trails. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Rode the Surrey Hills yesterday for first time in ages. Was surprised by how many women there were out riding. Can't say I was looking too closely at their shoes! ๐Ÿ˜‰

On a serious note, it's very rare that I see another solo woman on the trails with perhaps Swinley being the exception.

I'm guessing these wimminz (or "kitchen people" as they're more commonly known) must have been given permission from their husbands otherwise i don't know what this world is coming to?! next thing they'll be allowed to drive or something!

better let the rangers know to look out for wayward members of the weaker sex as well as sneaky people riding without permits.

Oops, didn't mean to light the blue touch paper and run, I was just (pleasantly) surprised at the balance, compared to say Peaslake or Leith Hill tower.

Same for flats really (although flats and armour seems de rigeur around Surrey (just jealous since I don't have the skills or (pick gener specific homone producing organs of your choice here) to need them.

phinbob - no no I'm just having a laugh. ๐Ÿ˜€ Swinley is cool. Can't say I've noticed a large proportion using flats but I do use them.

phil - couldn't agree more! Can't be doing with this 'progress' ๐Ÿ˜‰
