ok so i cant aford a decent riding shirtor base layer yet so im xc riding in at shirt and a small skinny camel back.any way im getting a really sweaty back after a few hours.the wind cools me everywhere else but not my back.
would a proper cycling shirt really help that much or is it inevitable in 20 odd degrees?

Inevitable, are you using a cotton shirt? any man made material will be better than that.

Sports soccer or TKmax for cheap but good material base layers, usually football training kit, Nike drifit, adidas and umbro equivalents work too. Should be able to get something from around a fiver. Wifebeater style helps this weather too, if you have the arms for them.

In TK max a few weeks back and they had a couple Santa Cruz bits in the sports clothing, its worth trawling through all the clothes.

Get this stuff

I suffer from the same problem. Get someone to spray that all over your back before you go to bed. Lie on your front and let it dry in.

Next day = no sweating. Should last for a good few days before you need another application

Also works elsewhere on the body > armpits, bawsack etc

Ditch the camelbak, use waterbottles and pockets.

Rode home from work with a cotton t-shirt the other day and I couldn't believe how much difference a cheap decathlon base layer shirt makes
