Am I correct in assuming a rear Hope Tech M4 calliper swap with a Tech X2 is a straight forward procedure, ie it won't need bleeding?

That depends whether you lose any fluid when splitting the caliper from the hose. Personally I'd bleed them to be on the safe side.

It will need bleeding. You'll be disconnecting the banjo bolt to swap calipers and that is going to let air in. Keep the caliper elevated and you'll stop the air bubble traveling up to the lever/MC, thus making bleeding a little quicker/easier.

I'd also recommend cleaning the braking surface of the rotor, maybe even having a quick rub around with some fine sandpaper. This will ensure a quicker/better bedding in of the new pads.

Bum, I thought no air would get in. Good point about keeping the calliper/banjo elevated making it easier to bleed.
Thanks for clarifying.

Have managed to do it without bleeding but ideally needs two of you as one will be very very slowly pulling lever in, while you attach banjo and fluid goin everywhere. You'll still need to top up the resevoir so you may aswell bleed it anyway.
