Nostalgia, as well as the need for a good xc ride, has prompted me to think about doing this again, after not having done it for about 6 or so years.
I use to do it all the time: Starting and finishing in Newlands Corner car park, and adding in my own personal favourite trails to the set route: Is it still worth doing? I seem to remember that they completely sanitised the climb up to Newlands Corner at the end.
Any additions to the route I should look out for?
send me an email (in profile). We did a nice 60k ride from Newlands recently, you can make it more/less trails as you wish.
The Water Lane climb is now flat (has been for some years, 5?) but IMO it's much better as it had gotten very rutted with MXers and who needs that at the end of a long ride ? If you want a more challenging way up then take the very rutted boat from Shere or the bridleway to Hollister Farm or one from Juniper Hill/Coombe Lane (both certainly steep and good descents fyi)
