I'm sure most Zwifters would rather see them spending their money on improving Zwift, particularly if they are just going to keep running the platforms alongside each other. No synergies or economies of scale - I can't see the logic.
It’s a last ditch Hail Mary when they can’t grow any more.
Urgh.... I got an annual 2 person Rouvy subscription just before the price hike. Guess its just gonna go up and up now. Im seeing more and more MyWoosh routes on my strava.
Given that the PIF have pulled out of LIV golf, it might start similar sports washing to pull out of MyWhoosh too.
(Yes I know that UAE isn't Saudi, but it might be the beginning of the end of it)

How much does it actually cost to run one of these operations if you were to just abandon all development, marketing, everything except actually running the software?
Obviously there's a huge upfront cost of developing the software and acquiring users, but once that's done, what does it actually cost them to have you riding round? I still play 25 year old PC games online that presumably somewhere someone is having to maintain a server for?
I sort of see it going (or wish it would go) down the Minecraft route. Where anyone can setup a server and people can connect to it. Want to race in the "Tuesday night Croissant League division 3A" race, you just log onto their server and go. Want to do a social ride with friends, someone's PC hosts it.
I can't quite fathom how Zwift can lose money at £15/month, when call of duty is free to play, as long as you don't get sucked into buying skins and loot boxes?

The only thing I don't like about MyWhoosh is to get better graphics than zwift requires substantially more computing power. I could run Zwift in the 2nd tier settings settings all day long, My whoosh I've got lots of the settings turned down and it's in 720p to get the animations even slightly smooth.
For that reason I can't really see a lot of users who run Zwift on old hardware or Apple TV ever switching. Even at £100+/year it's a lot of years to payback even a 2nd hand RTX3060 card.
I suspect there's a benefit to the paper growth and real world lack of competition when the time comes for Zwift to get ready for their IPO.
Maybe Zwift get to sell more one cogs and play controllers, seeing as Rouvy will be able to use these devices. So maybe pivoting into hardware helps?

Probably still a fair bit, all those existing old games you're playing are probably subsidised by the companies other products TBF.
Servers, fast, reliable servers ain't free, especially if you can't persuade a chunk of your customer base to subscribe on an annual basis.
Personally I've opted out of the whole "Virtual racing/training" thing, it was fun for a bit, but honestly £150+ pa for a rather 'meh' computer game that you only play if it's cold/wet out is a bit of a rip off IMO.
Mergers/acquisitions are normally the first sign that the sector has plateaued and the never ending growth investors want to see is not going to happen.
