He got back to my once with...could be sunlight bla bla bla. 😀
Only ever used soapy water to clean the bike so it,s not chemical...
Emailed back...this should be fun.
Don,t mind buying a new set but there only 2 months old???

Are you sure it's perished, not become damaged in some other way? It's kind of hard to see what would cause a rubber seal (that's a standard part in pedals under a dozen different brands after all) to perish so fast. Sunlight definately hasn't caused it, have you added grease, used harsh cleaners? Ridden through any chemical waste dumps

Superstar's standard warranty response is "it's your fault"- they did it to me, I had a faulty seatpost which stuck, they suggested I service it, I did, it still stuck, they said "You caused the problem when you serviced it"- apparently my servicing travelled through time., But to be fair here, it'd be my first assumption for something like this too.

I have 2 pairs of the exact same pedals under a different brand and they've shown no sign... (though, have to say, if they ever do I expect I'll be buying spares through Superstar, as they seem to be the only place to buy spares!)

That is really weird. It'd actually be pretty hard to degrade a rubber seal so fast even if you were trying! Unless they're incredibly old stock- come out of the bottom of a parts bin or something. But even then, an unstressed rubber part will usually last years before it deteriorates at all.

Ozone would do it. There's some rubber eating bacteria but they'd probably have gone for the tyres too. So they've probably been defective but then you'd think you'd have heard of other folks having the same problem.

Don't these guys sell the same pedal? try them perhaps.

http://www.carboncycles.cc/?s=0&t=2&c=84&p=940&

failing that try to find the original manufacturer - the superstar switch hubs are rebadged joytech hubs but no idea about the pedals.

Superstar's aftersales support is shocking. We should all group together and do something about it, send Anne Robinson in or something!

One of my nano pedals is wonkey on its axle. I don't know if after 7 months this is to be expected so its either send it back and wait to be told its normal, or buy their pedal referb kit.
