Hi everyone. I'm shopping around for a new pair of tyres for my bicycle and have been told that High Rollers would be a good choice with maybe a super tacky one up front.
So I went into Halfords this evening to ask one of their tyre specialists his opinion on it and pointed out that they only have super tacky on the shelf. He gave the tyre an expert prod with his finger and went to look for harder ones out the back with no luck.
Any ideas on what would be suitable 2.35's for a 5 inch travel bike that I usually ride on rocky and rooty all mountain kind of stuff? Not looking for heavy downhill tyres. Cheers.
I use 2.35 HR Super tacky front, 60a rear. Both single ply, rear is kevlar bead.
grippy combo, work well for me in the lakes, peaks and Spain
The ST HR is uber sticky. I loved hooning downhill on slippy winter trails but the dragging was just too much for me elsewhere so sold mine and now ride the 60a rubber one up front and a 60a Advantage on the back.
Troll surely.
I run a pair of super tacky high rollers. Love em and don't find the drag an issue at all. I am 15 stone though
You won't notice the extra drag from a super tacky up front but would on the rear. 2.35s are about the best size for high rollers with 60a rear. A lot of the harder riders I know are running minions these days for xc in the Lakes as they offer better grip and puncture resistance for hardly any difference in drag.
๐ก Panaracer Rampage 2.35" - SC on front
Thanks everyone. So many tyres out there it's hard to know what to go for.
minion on the front...hr on the rear. 2.35 and in 60a at both ends. I took a 2.5 minion in ST and hr in 60a to the alps and it faired well after 3 solid days. enough tread to take back next year but looks way way large for normal use so reverted back to 2.35 for home.
Tried Super Tackys & I entirely agree with 'great grip but too draggy for xc riding' I never thought I'd ditch a tyre for having too much grip but I did in this case.
