I've got a set of these fitted to my wifes Giant XTC....nice bike except for the forks!

Anyway, they are not very old, maybe 6 months, and lightly used.

BUT...they've given up the ghost...they seem to be permanently on lockout, whether the lockout switch is on or off. You can get them to move, then they suddenly they move right through their travel, then they stop again....

Is it worth trying to fettle them? If so, not sure what to do....

Or should I bin them and get some RS Recons from On One for £109? 😀

Just take them apart from the bottom of each stantion - there are two allen bolts in the bottom of each leg, just undo them and they should come apart.

They really are simple forks, there is probably just a lot of muck and grime around the bushes and 'seals' - they aren't sealed very well at all. The bushes are easy to pop out and the rubber seals come out easily too.

Clean the inside, the damping rod etc and give the legs plenty of grease inside and you should be good to go. It sounds like the damping may have gone on yours and they are sealed units and not really economic to replace to be honest, so check if it has broken when you put them back together. Oh, and you can unscrew the preload cap at the top of the left leg with a pair of long nosed pliers to get to the spring - again, clean it, give it plenty of grease and they should start working again.

Or just get some Recons 😉

They are cheapo forks, but you can get them to work ok if you keep on top of the tlc. To be honest, you can have them apart, greased, and back together in about 10 minutes, so it would be daft not to. Hope this helps!
