[#11134126]

I just build up a bike for Jnr - a nice Scandal V2 29'er from a nice chap on here, plus other bits and pieces from Jnr's old 26'er (now outgrown).

The drivetrain I have is 30t front and an 11>34 rear cassette. SLX 10 speed with an M675 rear mech.

So, in order to avoid too much moaning if any hills become apparent, I am going to get an 11>40 Sunrace cassette.

But, will I need to get a Goat Link, Sunrace extender or similar? Merlin have all the bits, but the Sunrace is cheaper...

Thanks in advance all. Much appreciated.

You might get away with just putting a longer b screw in but imo they shift better if you alter the mech. I use a rad cage but I don't know if you can still get them. Not tried a sunrace extender but I reckon it'll help.

I am running 10spd Slx with an 11-42 cassette, I just bought a longer b screw off eBay. It works perfectly and I thought would be a better solution than a goat link.

You should be ok with the rear mech and a longer B tension screw.

I used the same mech with 11 - 46T Sunrace cassette and although it worked well on one frame without the extended screw, it definitely needed it on my hardtail at the time.

I bought a SR extender to fix issue with wheel removing & tension on rear mech to inner sprockets

I have not fitted it yet but do need to for my SR 12spd 11-50T setup

I used a goat link & a longer b screw on an 11-46 Sunrace. May not have needed both but it’s certainly improved the shifting.

I'd try it first and see if it works. I'm runjjng 32 x 42 on a normal xt rear mech. The ebay copy link is sat on a shelf.

Did you see this on Pinkbike

Bikester sell the 9 and 11 speed versions so I guess the 10 speed one will be out soon

I ran an ebay 3 quid derailleur extender for about a year to run 11-46 on a 10-speed xt drivetrain on an intense spider. Never once skipped a beat.

I have both the genuine and eBay copy Goat links and they're identical in form and function. £1.99 from eBay.
