.....a lot of people not wearing a helmet.
Any opinions? ๐
I don't wear a helmet when riding my brompton, which I ride in London pretty much every weekday.
I'm still alive
gt back under your bridge, its getting old now

No it isn't, and this is not trolling either.
Summers is here and those that think it's too hot for a helmet are out in force, I've seen far more without than with today.
I've always worn one for singletrack, techy stuff and also for commuting.
I know there are some on here that will tell us all they make little difference but I reckon I would not be here, had I not been wearing one the day I headbutted a tarmac road at high speed in a rather unfortunate incident involving lack of good judgement on my part.
Accidents at high speed on bikes can happen at any given moment, there are also other good reasons to wear one, even in summer, such as a branch and twig deflector deep in the singletrack undergrowth, shade from the sun etc..
There hasn't been a topic on this subject for at least 5 minutes anyway so I felt it was necessary, but if you don't like it, why not just move on to the next thread instead of spouting your 'you must be a troll' venom at me?
i use the following rule
Chav's don't wear helmets
Chav on a nice bike means it's stolen.
so anyone on a nice bike without a helmet is obviously a bike thief and
therefore a contemptible git.
nice boobs
Why do parents make their kids wear helmets but not set an example by wearing them themselves. Loads of it in evidence on the Tarka Trail yesterday ๐
I have lots of opinions thanks.
I have plenty of opinions as well. Cycling is safe, serious head injuries are rare, helmets only offer marginal protection, Its nice to ride without one, increasing rates of helmet wearing does not reduce head injuries acrosss the whole population of cyclists for unexplained reasons.
Lots of facts and links to follow if you want to know more

What can be added to the debate that hasn't been said but subjective opinion? Still, a Sunday tumble over the bars at speed and a bang from following bike persuades me they're desirable on the downs and worth wearing on the ups. OTOH, if one is bimbling about in no great rush I doubt they're vital. I guess the jargon is "personal risk assessment".
Heard a nightingale on tonight's ride - more reliable indicator to me than helmetless riding - can't say I've noticed any difference in central London - lots more ladies on bikes though which always lifts the Er spirits
