As per title really.. Any suggestions for outer layers now its getting colder?

I did try getting one of those cheap tops from Aldi, but the zip was rubbish so it went back unworn and they didn't have any others in my size.

What do other people wear that keeps you warm, but doesn't lead to overheating/sweating?

I have some breathable base layers.

Picked up a North Face Dirt Tracks Jacket.

Gore Windstopper, sleeves zip off, is plenty warm.

options
1- basic long sleeve b/l with 1/4 zip
2- short sleeve b/l with arm warmers
both worn with a gilet, winter gloves and buff to stop the warm up chill than can always chop and change when needed

what about the legs? im looking in 3/4 under layers atm(yes leggings )

I have a half zip shell. Hood built in for when walking/stopped. keeps the worst off and the wind out. Climatec is the brand I think.

Today's attire:
Pearl Izumi Bib shorts with roubaix tights
Pearl Izumi short sleeve base layer
Pearl Izumi thin long sleeved jersey
Eye bleach bright gillet
Road gloves
Thick running socks
Shimano road shoes

Yesterday I wore a full waterproof top through the cold fog, but to be honest was too hot/wet inside. I have a roubaix long sleeve jersey too, but when it is really cold this in't enough. So I'll get something a little more windproof. Since I'm commuting, the gillet stays regardless.

I find a thick woolly jumper with a zip neck combined with a gillet is good for most conditions up to full rain.

A merino icebreaker close fitting base goes under, and for actual rain a Pertex Montane goes on top.

The open weave of the wool allows it to breathe better than almost anything, and wool stays warm even in a light drizzle if you're working hard.

I'm with epicyclo - long sleeve merino top with zip neck and gilet covers a lot of conditions.

if it's really miserable then long sleeve base and a breathable waxed jacket I got from Scats. I think it's a shooting jacket as it is loose on the shoulders but is a decent cut for biking otherwise. £50 🙂

If I had 150 quid I would get the Endura soft-shell one which does everything and is close fitting enough for roadying.

My ALDI jacket is on it's third winter now. Best winter jacket I ever had. Cost me twenty quid. The zip on the back broke very soon on but apart from that it's everything a winter jacket should be, warm, breathable, hard wearing.

I do have a massively hardcore, police surplus reflective jacket which is the warmest item of clothing on earth and can be seen from the moon but that only comes out when there's seriously bad weather about.
