Looking to start commuting after a long hiatus, and may go for clipless - have posted a WTD ad for CB candy or similar to see how I go. Ultimately the CB Double Shot 3 appeals - I use flats ATM and would like to continue to use bike for urban duties too.

Had found some 2nd hand Northwave GTX boots, but the sale fell through...

Anyway - Any thoughts on the Lake/Mavic/LG shoes?

Boa-type closures are the theme here!

Plus I have sketchy knees (pronation-fuelled dislocations) so a shoes with useable soles are critical (hands the high float CB pedals)

Not on your list but have you thought about northwave raptors. I've just got some arctics and they are very good. Got some lake mzx303 at same time and although they are brilliant they were really heavy and didn't feel as nice a fit. Raptors are boa and not that I've walked far but they are ok. Quite expensive though

Funnily enough, it was the camo-print Raptors that caught my attention and started this all off!

The soles don't look as supportive as I'd like for walking/stairs into work etc

I have relatively wide feet and have heard that the entry collar may be an issue

Lake Mx145. On their third winter of MTB. Have been faultless. Not completely waterproof anymore but sealskinz sort that. They seem to keep your feet relatively warm. Well made and comfy. Got mine from Halfords for about £85 with British Cycling discount.

Thanks for the input guys.

Got some MX145 on Ebay but slightly to narrow, so have returned and ordered wider/larger from SaltDogCycling to see how I go.

Also have two sizes of the Mavic SL Pro Thermos coming from German online store, as they do free returns so it's the easiest way for me to test sizes and fit.

Fingers (not toes?) crossed.

Missed this before, but I had some of the LG ones and they weren't great, stank of cat piss and weren't that warm.

I need to get some to replace them I used road shows last winter, but theyre not as convenient, and overshoes aren't as good with MTB shoes

I returned the Lake MX145 after they leaked on a road ride second time out. Shame as a nice looking boot. The LG's aren't a warm boot and feel clumpy. Despite being quite a high boot there's no lateral support in them, as my torn ankle ligaments can attest to when I slipped walking in them.
I keep returning to Northwave boots.
