Still clear skys and sunshine here today, so looking good if it holds till Saturday. Just need to find a new Maxle for my pikes as mine is knackered/broken and the wheel kept coming loose on Sunday which is a little unnerving to say the least.
if i can make it i'll be cutting the ride early due to family commitments.
7hrs does sound a bit long for a 30mile ride even with stops.
Sadly I can't make it due to the previously mentioned stiches in my leg, fisrt set of sutures split and had to be restiched!
Enjoy the ride!
Was hoping I might be a late entry for this - but it is not going to happen.
Was over there this afternoon. It's dry, fast and sometimes very sandy. Also, frank's tank is particularly shagged out in parts (ruts within ruts), had a couple of moments today. Have fun and be careful.
will it be a easy SS-able route ? (save getting my shiney geared bike dirty)
One of the guides has SS'd most of the route (for fun on a geared bike!) There is a decent amount of climbing though, and some of it is on loose chalky stuff and pretty steep. As you SS lots around the Quantocks you should be OK. Wouldn't ever refer to SS as easy though, surely that's the point?
Route info and some final details will be posted tonight.
Don't worry Aleigh, we'll have plenty of options on the day so I can see the short route being split at the 3/4 mark.

Does sound a bit long doesn't it even for a "slow" ride, but I think RichPenny is allowing time for worst case scenarios. In all likelihood it should probably be quicker, I'm hoping so anyway cos I've got to leave before 5pm and am hoping not to have miss out on any of the ride.
Knottie, take the Chammy out for a pootle she needs airing..
Yep, just allowing for a range of abilities really. If you think that's slow, I think you need to be on the long ride really as I'm hoping the fitter people will want to do that. We rode most of it along with lots of faffing and 2 food stops on Sunday and I think it took 7 hours. On the Quantocks STW ride I think we did 20 miles in about 6 hours. Group rides are a bit different I think...
That bike would cringe with me riding it ! Besides it a a spell cast upon it ....
Did 30 miles in the Purbecks today, was glorious with dry trails 🙂
Final Details:
Routes
We still have two routes of about 30 miles but are expecting them to be flexible depending on fitness and times. The fast route is only slightly longer but has a couple more hills and we hope more bits that people will want to ride twice. Tracklogs files and Word docs with JPEGS will be emailed shortly. I'll have a few laminates spare for those who may need to bail early.
Location
Big carpark at the end of Poole Harbour, closest to Sandbanks. Nearest postcode is BH13 7QB, it's on your left just before the mini roundabout. Should be obvious as the road widens to 3 lanes, 2 of which are for the CP. Look out for a black merc van with green Naim Audio decals. For those coming from the west, it would be better if you could park up Studland side then ride over to meet with us.
Times
We'll be leaving around 10, so please arrive at 9-9.30 as there's always loads of faffing. The routes could take up to 7 hours as we'll be riding at the pace of the slowest riders, and stopping lots for regrouping and pics etc.
Costs
Car Park is £1, although this might jump to about £7 if we're unlucky enough to hit summer season charges!
Ferry is £1.60 return for a bike.
Sausage pie or Cornish Pastie in the Square and Compass pub is £2.80.
Food and drink
Aside from a snack at the pub we don't aim to be stopping elsewhere, so please bring your own
I'll stick my mobile on the e-mail so people can get in touch if required.
Really looking forward to this now, forecast currently looking ok 🙂
Cheers,
Rich
knottie is opting for gears and will be riding with the knitting group again. Rich put me off SSing by mentioning the "pretty steep" words...lol
Roll on Saturday !
i've packed my ice cream money, there will be ice cream won't there?
Richpenny - i'm not receiving e mails.
Could you send me the details to drpidgeon AT gmail DOT com?
cheers
DrP
Rich would i be right in guessing you will be in "slower" group ? Just comparing with the Quantocks ride .Looking at the map i reckon there won't be much difference driving to Poole than Studland so probably meet you at the same place .
There will be plenty of ice cream opportunities, but last forecast i saw was for showers.
Car park was still cheap last week when we went to the beach, i think it changes at start of May.
Ride have got a Santa Cruz and Yeti demo day over their on Sunday, so it might be double bubble if i can clear it with the missus.
You should have mail DrP. There's only been one other tbh, I'm not very organised...
Rocketdog, I have seen a van along the route, but sadly it wasn't there on Sunday. Surely it's summer now though...
Lol, epic fail on the email. I think I've just sent a 4MB email to my entire address book!
WOO! and indeed HOO!
I'm in, see y'all in t'morning!
😀
Anyone home yet?
Thanks Rich for putting on a great day out.
The missus had the bath run and the tea on and i got home in time to kiss my little girl good night, doesn't get much better than that.
Nice to meet you all.
Rusty
Great day! Thanks to Rich and Anna. It could not have been a better ride (well some short bread or cakes may have clinched it) I loved it and had forgottne how good the Purbecks are.

Yay, ace pics as always knottie!
Had a fab day out people lovely I wanted to take everyone home but my flat's not big enough and we'd probably all end up arguing and so on reflection I'll just stick to STW forum rides.
Thanks all for coming along and making the day so special 8)

a good line in awful face making
Yeah and we ? her for it 🙂
nice stack by the chap on the genesis
😳
I'm blaming Knottie though for pointing the camera in my face, and putting me off! Nothing to do with my crap line choice whatsoever... 😉
Got a nice bit of skin missing from my left hip area for my troubles too. Ah well, it happens... Was a very good ride though!
Oh, and my apologies to everyone (those I already know and those I was just meeting for the first time) if I seemed a little bit distant and untalkative. Can assure you all this is not normally the case, but I received a bad news text message about an hour into the ride that really put me in quite a sombre mood for the rest of the day. It happens I suppose, sorry if you got the impression I was a bit of a grumpy bugger cos usually I'm anything but!
Makes me all the more jealous. I turned up to say hello and was SO tempted to tag along anyway. Had to spend the day babysitting a 4 and 8 year old instead which was fun in a whole different way.
Hope to see you all in August at a really special event.
Brave voyagers to a foreign land...

who's the rider in the washing machine ?
mboy, yeah i worry that knottie's camera sometimes has a tractor-beam effect that aims me toward the ground! i manage to break free most of the the time, but i know a massive caught-on-camera stack is long overdue 😯 , no doubt on a river crossing. hope the bad news doesn't spoil your sunday too.
so, where's the next big SW-STW group ride...?looks like i should try and get along to one...
Liking the photos. Its a bit grey and cloudy here this morning, so i think we were lucky with the weather. Every one get home in one piece?
and she has a good line in awful face making :o)
well someone has to have a sense of humour now don't they barnes? 😉 😆
thanks again to anna and rich for a superb day yesterday, i had a great time! and a special thanks to knottie for accompanying me on several walks 😆
would it ok on a 36/16? i'll join you gnottie..
