Conditions update? Metcheck says light rain tomorrow but what state are the trails in already? or is it all hardpack trails (the part of the route I know should be right dunno bout the rest tho)
The trails there take the rain well. It'll be fine and no need for special mud tyres.
It'll be fine and no need for special mud tyres.
there's never any need for those at these latitudes ๐
There will be Lots of rock and very little mud,I think the ice and snow will have all gone, there are some washed out bits though,Iron Keld has taken a beating after the recent floods. ๐ฅ
As ton says in the first post it will be cold so bring plenty of gear,A warm drink might be a good idea as well,I do anticipate a few punctures and stops. ๐
anyone got any presta valve 26" tubes i could buy? forgot to buy some today and i can guarantee ill get a puncture?
I always bring plenty, so if you get a punture, i'll have one to lend you.
cheers Chew i had about 6 but the friggin valves kept tearing off! ๐ฅ
Thanks again for the ride Gav; good turnout - see you Tuesday.
38 riders, 21 miles, 5ish hours (I think), 728 photos, of which only about half were of the gorgeous clareymorris :o) Only 5 punctures, and about the same number of mechanicals. A great day out, mild with some sunshine and no rain!
4 Bog Trotters braved and rode the ford at Little Langdale while the other tarts (of both sexes) looked on in awe or horror ๐
biggest dissappointment of the day was the absence of the taut-thighed FoxyChick, though her toy boy Paul did attend ๐ [and she did come to the caff afterwards] Tony blew my cover when I was innocently quizzing Jaquie by saying "You know when old men offer sweeties to schoolgirls? Well, that's Barnes with you!" ๐
Apologies again for being lantern Rouge... and holding everyone up... ๐ณ
and holding everyone up
say rather giving us all frequent welcome rests ๐
cracking day out, good to be back on proper hills. Big thanks to the organisers who for some reason may not want to be named ๐ Was a long day but that's the nature of popular rides, not down to the speed of the slowest rider so stop being so apologetic teeto (and no im not suggesting you were the slowest)
It didnt take you guys long to get home!!!!. I think we managed just under 3hrs of actual ride time. Many stops there was!!!
I`m sure we will get to see some of SFBs pics.
Nice 1 guys..... ๐
I`m sure we will get to see some of SFBs pics.
there were lots of other snappers too ๐
Cracking ride - I think everyone just enjoyed being out properly after all the weeks of snow!
Great to meet some of the STW'ers and a big high 5 to "man in Ciclo Montana shirt" (sorry forgot your name) for for duck tape and ingenious seatpost fixing idea. It didn't move 1 mm ๐
Yes indeed, but yours was the biggest ๐ฏ
"man in Ciclo Montana shirt"
that was tiny but perfectly formed (right) Matt ๐
Yes indeed, but yours was the biggest
where have you been looking ???
๐
the only big part of me is my ego which is visible from orbit ๐
BTW Clare, have you managed to get the post out yet, me thinks a sharp Stanley knife may be required โ
Did the job nicely
Nahh.....Might just leave it ;-D
in explanation, Clare's Hope seat post clamp broke, so she used her bar lamp clamp with copious amounts of gaffer tape as fitted by Matt, both to stop it slipping and to prevent the whole lot rotating ๐
edit: and it was unkind of me to suggest it was the size of her (delightful) arse what done it :o)
And we get to see it every week 8)
Cheers Gav for the great ride, some good stuff in there 8)
Great company, there was to many people to get to chat to every one ๐ chated to some though ๐
once again Cheers all
Thank god it is usually dark ;-D

Sorry about the quality. Bloody camera is on its way out ๐
BIG thanks to Gav and the other leaders. Great route. I have ridden in the lakes loads in the last 20 years or so, but I have never ridden most of the stuff today. Lucky with the weather again and a great group of people too. Enjoyed getting out for a proper ride, 1st of the year. Brilliant day! Thanks all.
Glad everyone enjoyed themselves,Well done to Max (cleaned no dabs) and the marin rider that did so well on "the climb" some handy riding by everyone out there today, riding in the Lakes at this time of year is tricky.
Another thanks to Andy Stephenson from Biketreks for the Huudge tin of chocolates, and freebies for the most cakes and chocolates eaten!....ahem(Clare morris).
A special thanks goes to Matt for coming along as another leader at the last minute, but was not needed.Riding over from Kendal is impressive enough,(13 miles)but going home again via Garburn (20miles)in the ice and snow is something else, awesome!
The guys that "got lost" in Grasmere only to get a lift back to the cars by the local police was a nice end to the day, class! ๐
or is that not quite what went on?
Thanks everyone it was a great ride ๐
More thanks to Gavgas from me and the Darlo crowd - some new bits to add to memory too. Steve (him with the locked up shock) managed to retain his sense of humour quite well as I descibed the good bits ridden today - well at least he took me home! ๐
Great crowd as usual too.
wasn't it also Matt who did such a good job of sweeping and even pushing along one worn out rider from Little Langdale ?
Yep a true sweeperupper pusherer! ๐ฏ
I gave the young lads the rest of the goodies from Biketreks,I think they both had a good day,but looked shattered!.
the youth of today! ๐

A special thanks goes to Matt for coming along as another leader at the last minute, but was not needed.Riding over from Kendal is impressive enough,(13 miles)but going home again via Garburn (20miles)in the ice and snow is something else, awesome!

Keith (the blue/white on-one)
And he wasn't just sweeping, he also sprinted back and forth between the main group and stragglers towards the end of the ride.A special thanks goes to Matt for coming along as another leader at the last minute, but was not needed.Riding over from Kendal is impressive enough,(13 miles)but going home again via Garburn (20miles)in the ice and snow is something else, awesome!
Rats! I was hoping to come along on this, but was made to stay home and plan the wedding instead. Truth be told I'm still pole-axed from yesterday's ride too.
Glad to hear it was a fun day out, though. What was the route in the end?
๐though you were stunning as always
