Lowey, any chance you could e-mail me contact details just in case I get lost? I have a propensity for doing this, and I don't even know which county the start point is in...

Nearly? I'd make it, I'd ride it all however I'd worry that I might be holding people up. As thats the case I'd rather ride on my tod and that way enjoy it without feeling bad 😀

In my vast experience of biking, the one hard and fast rule is:
if people say they will come, it means they might
if people say they might come, it means they won't

I'm coming with someone else. He's borrwing my singlespeed. He's not ridden offroad much. My mum might be angry if I kill my stepdad 🙁

Unless thats a joke, you might want to reconsider.

He's done plenty of road biking and is fitter than me. He has a mountain bike in Oz, but I don't know exactly how good he is, just assuming he'll walk the bits he won't feel comfortable on. How technical is the ride? ****in massive rocks would have me struggling as well tbh. Worst comes to the worst and you still think it's a bad idea, we could go on the Bogtrotters night ride that Wednesday 🙂

RichPenny
the ride is not very technical
steep up, less steeper grassy traverse, long singletrack descent that is doable on a full rigid ss, bit of road with a climb, and a nice bridleway with bits of up n down.
i will keep him company at the back..... 😀

I wouldn't exactly agree with ton's description - I'd say Bowderdale was quite technical! But then he's a riding god 🙂

Now that my wife and kids have finally got over a collective attack of some nasty horrid virus and I'm still ok, can you add another one to that..

See you Sunday (viruses permitting)

Loot, quick word mate, this ride is far more demanding than the Rivi ride... have you been getting the miles in mate ?

Please dont think that I'm lecturing, but if you struggled with that, you will be in trouble on this ride.

For those wondering whether it's too hard or technical?

I did this route with the Boggies when I was 60 🙂 By the time I'd got to the end of the Bowderdale valley I felt a bit tired. Also realised I was only half way round! As Simon says it's fairly technical singletrack for miles. Thankfully the second half is a lot easier.

well i'll be going slowly at the back, possibly walking if too steep / scary, enjoying the sunshine and trying to keep an eye on where everyone else is heading towards.

walking is more or less a given. I only know of one person who's ridden all the way up Calders (insanely fit, well, actually just insane)

I have but mostly on the road - I don't want to be hanging off the back and holding everyone up again. Maybe it'll be best if I leave it for this time..

Have a good day.

Cheers Si. 5+ months is a long time, must have been a bad break. And here am I thinking another 4-5 weeks no biking for me is bad (eye op last week).

Enjoy your ride tomorrow.

Utterly gutted.

Car steering packed up alarmingly between jnct 36 and 37. Limped to the lay by at the top of 37 and sat on my arse for nearly 3 hrs waiting for the AA to turn up.

Missed probably the best days cycling of the year. 😡 😈

We're under instruction not to make Dave jealous by saying it was a good ride, so my lips are sealed, apart from telling you there were 33 riders including just 4 women, one of whom fell just 200m short of the end of the off road and had to be bandaged up after cutting her knee quite badly 🙁 Excellent cake and scones were served afterwards 🙂

565 photos taken by me, and probably hundreds more by the other participants 🙂

I could probably have made Sedbergh in about 15 mins on the bike from when I broke down. Sitting there looking over the hills in the glorious sunshine was just shit. Pure shit.

Glad you had a good one lads (and lasses). Perfect weather, perfect route.
Gutted.

I realised that without pen and paper I'd never be able to identify all the riders, but here's my partial list:

Riders: Boggies: Chris M, Malcolm, Andrea, Stuart M, Andy G, Michael, John C, Simon B; Darlington contingent: Deejay, Steve, Trevor, Graham (??), Jackie + several unknown; Uncategorised: Jo, Tom, Mel, Stuart (retd), Robin (retd), Paul (Clark), Peter (singlespeed!), Ton(y), Danny, Johnnie, Faz, Dave (Donk) [25, leaving another 8 names please]

Ahh I'd be one of the other 8 then!. Grant (the Blue Intense blokey) :)... the one who got the nice 1" slice in me tyre after about 500 metres from the start!. Thanks again to all those that helped - that tyre boot did the job nicely. So I got to enjoy a fantastic day out riding some awesome terrain in a new part of the world for me.
I was also with Tom and Jo and then Dave (chuckie), Paul and Mick!!!.

Thanks again for organising the day, it was very good to meet new folk and see a few familiar faces too.

Hope Tom and Jo make it back home ok and Lancaster A&E isn't too traumatic :I... good luck.

Looking fwd to the piccies!!!.
